After struggling to center the chuck on my old 12 inch Craftsman lathe, I decided to look for a new self-centering chuck. This chuck is remarkable. It is a heavy chuck for the size and the pinions performs perfectly to center all the jaws simultaneously. The price is very reasonable and the quality of the workmanship assures that this chuck will last many years. It holds my wood in place securely.

Definitely not in the nova chuck class. Seems like little if any cleanup after milling. Lots of burrs. I cleaned up the worst and now it works pretty smooth. I wanted something cheap that would prevent me from having to reconfigure the jaws during projects and it works just fine as my second chuck!

I have three of these. I see no need to spend $$$$$ on tools. These have been great woodturning tools.

First off, I love that I didn’t have to overpay for a good quality gear chuck! Second, I love that it fits perfectly on my WEN benchtop lathe! And best of all, it holds its grip well! Was absolutely drenched in grease in the box so no worries about rust. A little excessive really as there were grease spots on the outside of the box, but I guess better safe then sorry. The ONLY downside is that sometimes the key will slip a little when tightening. The teeth of the key are not as deep as I’ve seen on other chuck keys. Overall, I really love it and would definitely recommend!

I bought the chuck in July of 2021. I’m a novice bowl turner. I only turn two or three bowls a week. I was making a new friction chuck in March of 2022. I chucked up the friction chuck so that I could true up the face. I had my lathe speed set at 600 rpm. As soon as I started the lathe everything flew apart. I shut down my lathe as soon as my life stopped flashing before my eyes and saw one of the four chuck jaws left on the chuck. I’m a journeyman machinist so I know lathe chucks. After investigating what happened I noticed that there was some excessive movement with the scroll plate. There is a snap ring that holds the scroll plate in place. The problem is that the recess in which the snap ring sets in is no where deep enough to be effective. It’s only about.032” deep. I’ve tried to put the snap ring back in place and reset the jaw four times and the snap ring keeps coming out of the recessed groove.
