A must-have book for every Star Wars fan
I can't imagine any serious Star Wars fan could live without a copy of this book. These days it can be picked up for not much money. It is certainly one of the better "Art of" books, featuring an impressive array of artwork from all stages of the movie's development. It also includes words from George Lucas, and a host of knowledgeable people. The artwork is well presented, on glossy paper, and printed to a high standard. some "Art of" books have been a real let-down, but this one shines on every page. It is fascinating in the technical and imaginative brilliance of the artists. It's a book that offers a massive amount of artwork for a low price. A bargain!

Great look at the art behind Star Wars
The media could not be loaded. When George Lucas started writing for the Star Wars prequels, he put together an amazing art department to help create and visualise the scenes he needed. In this book contains the concept art, sketches, character designs, environment paintings and storyboards created for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The creativity in the designs are phenomenal, and is showcased on every page. The art are categorized by locations, specifically The Trade Federation, The Planet of Naboo, Naboo: Otoh Gunga, Naboo: The City of Theed, Tatooine: The Desert Planet and Coruscant: The City Planet. The amount of art work churn out is amazing, and I'm pretty sure this book contains only a small portion. Almost every piece of art makes me think to myself,"Gosh, these guys are good." All designs are captioned to explain the story requirements. Here are some artists from the concept design team:* Doug Chiang - Design director* Gavin Bocquet - Production designer* Peter Russell - Supervising art director* Iain McCaig - Concept artist* Terryl Whitlatch - Concept artist* Jay Shuster - Concept artist* Edwin Natividad - Concept artist* Kurt Kaufman - Concept artist* Benton Jew - Storyboard artistThis book is highly recommended to sci-fi artists, concept artists and of course Star Wars fans. It might be hard to find the book since it was published way back in 1999.There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.

A beautiful insight into the design of Episode 1.
If you have seen any of the other books in the Art of Star Wars series you will have an idea of what to expect in this book. Many of the designs for the creatures, sets and vehicles used in Episode 1 are featured, beautifully arranged and chronicling a lot of the design decisions made by Doug Chiang and George Lucas in the design process.Heavily influenced by Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston, Doug Chiangs work is vibrant and fresh as well as respectful and in keeping of previous work in designing Star Wars. The book features many production paintings by Chiang, and his marker renderings of his designs. Also included are works by many other artists hand plucked from ILM for this movie. Now I can't wait for the Art of Episode 2!

the real stars of the film are the art department
I had a brief glimpse of the contents of this book when i ordered the U.S widescreen video collection set from amazon.com, I was gobsmacked! never having purchased any the ' the art of Star Wars ' books I then brought the art books for episodes 4,5 and 6.I was slightly disappointed with these books since there seemed to be so much missing and therefore a bit dubious about buying this one, however I have not been dissapointed. The quality of the repographics is excellent which makes a change as several of my books seem to have been printed on the cheap. But lets get back to the content of the book MIND BLOWING! looking at the quality of the art, the detail and the imagination of the art team it makes you wonder who are the real stars Buy it you won't be disappointed.

Lots of great art in this book!
Lots of great art in this book! Might not be a good movie but the production art, concept art, sculptures and so on is amazing! Higly recommeded to any aspiring or current artist working in the industry, or for any star wars fan for that matter.

Fairly good for for its age
The cover it's a little wear but the inside is like new. No damaged pages. Important to say the pages are glossy and thick. I love the quality of those books. For the art book itself, a outstanding 208 pages of concept art, sketches and drawings from the first movie that shows the creative process of bringing to life the Star Wars different creatures. Leaving aside some aspects of the film, Episone One has a rich and colorful art and visually is just amazing, from the high tech visuals of space ships and droids, to the organic, and diverse creatures that populates the strange worlds of Star Wars universe.
