Your description says: “mountain road bike” ..can you please specify which? (Asking before buying for my road bike)

If you want a road-bike specific kit I'd suggest paying more and going for a named brand (Shimano, SRAM, Campag) that match your equipment. I fitted them to my hybrid and they are OK, but there seems to be more cable drag than with premium stuff. I had to reset my V brake springs to a higher notch to compensate. In the past I always bought Dura-Ace cables and they reward you with long life and smooth operation... but ten times the price :)

I'm totally confused by this. Is this a gear cable replacement kit or a brake cable replacement kit?

You get the steel cables for gears and breaks but the black protective tubing is only just long enough for the rear gear cable on my MTB
