Why such a variation in reviews? Some purchasers say the packaging is junk, and product doesn't work.

The packaging is junk. The rods are held together with electrical tape inside a light weight bubble mail envelope. If you want to fill a hole, it might work for you if everything is perfectly clean. I wouldn’t use it for anything that requires any strength.

Can you use upside down?

If you follow the directions, you shouldn't have any problems.

How does this work on galvanized steel but not regular steel?

Galvanized steel means that the steel is coated in zinc. As Simple Welding Rods work great with zinc, this is why they would work with the galvanized steel, but not regular steel. Please note that the rod material will only join to the zinc layer, so the repairs of the galvanized steel would not be as strong as they are with other metal. The strength is limited to that of the zinc layer to the steel. This is why they only recommend it for galvanized steel repairs that are mostly cosmetic, and aren't structural.

Will it work putting two pieces of brass together
