Prime-Line U 9488 Adjustable Door Strike, 2 Piece, Chrome Plated (Single Pack)

What I was trying to fix? I wanted my door to close snugly without it rattle back and forth. I also needed the smart lock to be able to lock without having to push the door closed. Problems I ran into: The plate is definitely longer than my traditional plate. I had to use a wood chisel to knock out some of the wood. I traced the plate then chiseled out the wood. It was relatively easy. The second problem I ran into was that I had to position the plate quite bit to the back of the frame. Meaning when I close the door, the door would have hit the wood frame first before it hit the strike plate. So I re-positioned it more towards the front and hope for the best. Third problem I ran into was the screws. The screws were quite long and I got to a point where I felt resistance and didn't want to drill in further. So I opted for shorter screws which i did have some on hand. Fourth problem, the locking plate does sit flush with the striking plate if you have a flush screw. Unfortunately, the screws I had wasn't flush so stuck out a bit which hit the door everytime I tried to close. I could have fixed this by running to the hardware store but I ended up forgoing the locking plate. I screw directly to the striking plate and it worked! Door closes snugly, there is very little play when I pull on the knob, and my smart lock didn't need additional assistance to lock on its own. Overall, I did have to customized it for my needs but the design was sound and it works. The plate does feels solid and looks great. Price was fantastic. As long as you understand this isn't a drop in plate and you will need to customize it to your fit, you should be good.

I recently installed an electronic dead bolt that did not perfectly line up due to some play with the lever-handle latch, so it would not always close reliably. I installed this adjustable latch. Problem solved! Due to it's thickness I needed to remove a bit of the jam, but it was a simple fix with a wood chisel. The screws that were provided were too long (would have gone all the way through the jamb into an adjacent window), and the ones that held the old strike plate were too small to use (they slipped through the holes in the new plate), so I had to dig around for some that would work.

We have an old house and a couple of the doors had a mismatch between the latch and the deadbolt which made turning the key in the deadbolt hard without having to yank on the door handle. The extra large opening and the adjustable nature of this strike plate made it easy to get a perfect match and now the deadbolt slides effortlessly. Highly recommended. Would buy again.

Cheaply made. It worked but not as a long term solution. The grooves in the parts were not deep and moves when the door closes. The tooling they are using to fabricate is either worn or not being stamped deep enough.

If you have a door that will not stay closed this is the cure. Easy to use and adjustable.

I received this door strike today, it came well packaged and is just what I expected. It works exactly as it should and seem well made. Overall, this purchase perfectly matches its description, and I am extremely satisfied with the product. It definitely deserves a five-star rating and I would purchase again!

Worked great. Very simple to install. Just a little larger then the one being replaced, which was good. Because the screw holes were stripped out. I just had to chisel out a small portion of the mortise and pre-drill and it fit like a glove. I did notice one plate didn't fit flush at first. But I turned it over and it fit perfect.

My house settles and expands with thw canadian extreme temperatures. This allows me to adjust my doors so makes it easier to close them during temperatur exteeams.

Don't use the 2 little bars because there is very little friction between them and the strike and it just adds to the thickness anyways. And use screws cap headed screws with a wide head for a flat surface against the strike. These are great if your door swells at certain times of the year or it doesn't close tight enough to compress the seal when you drilled the holes. These should be the norm.

Teeth are so smooth that the adjustable strike will not hold a position. Don't buy.

Good idea, my father in law has something like this. But this one is useless. The ‘grippy’ surfaces are basically smooth. This is a really poor implementation of what is a good idea.
