From Melon to Masala: A Cautionary Tale of Natural Deodorant
I approached Salt of the Earth deodorant in a spirit of optimism usually reserved for New Year’s resolutions and experimental haircuts. Here, I thought, was Nature herself, lightly scented with melon and cucumber, ready to escort me confidently into business meetings smelling fresh, wholesome, and faintly virtuous. My hopes were high. Very high. I was prepared for a risky trial period, like a Victorian gentleman abandoning the railway for a mule. I had even steeled myself to part company with my old aluminium based antiperspirant, a brute that worked impeccably while quietly dissolving the armpits of my shirts. It was effective, yes, but destructive. A deodorant with a criminal record. Salt of the Earth promised a better life. No aluminium. No stains. No guilt. Just clean living and the gentle reassurance of melon and cucumber, suggesting spa towels and hydration charts. Alas. What followed began promisingly enough. For a brief, hopeful window there was indeed melon. There was cucumber. Then, somewhere around mid morning, two entirely different delegates arrived uninvited: cumin and onion. Not a hint. Not a whisper. A confident, full-bodied presence. Less “fresh produce aisle” and more “well intentioned curry preparation”. The fragrance appeared to make an opening statement and then excuse itself, leaving the floor entirely to my natural chemistry. Instead of neutralising matters, the product seemed to take notes. My confidence, once solid, began quietly drafting its resignation letter halfway through meetings. Gestures became economical. Jackets stayed firmly on. I developed a strong commitment to seated stillness. To be fair, my clothes are ecstatic. My shirts have never looked better. No stains, no crusts, no aluminium based trauma. They are pristine, hopeful garments, entirely unaware of the aromatic negotiations taking place beneath them. I wanted very much to love this deodorant. I admired its ethics, its purity, its melon-and-cucumber aspirations. But in the great contest between natural ideals and nervous perspiration, perspiration arrived seasoned. In summary, Salt of the Earth may suit monks, statues, or people whose bodies remain serenely neutral under pressure. For those of us who occasionally emit a cumin-and-onion overture during business discussions, I regret to report that Nature, unaided, is not quite ready for the boardroom.

Works and lasts - really impressed!
Update: it’s 34 degrees today, I’m sweating so much I can’t hold a pen, armpits still smell like an NT gift shop even though I showered about 19 hours ago. Very impressed. Wanted something that didn’t have aluminium, wouldn’t give me a rash, smelt pleasant and wouldn’t run out after 10 days (unlike the big brand roll-ons that keep shrinking in size but ballooning in price). I’ve tried the subscription ones that end up faffy to manage and gave me an allergic reaction after a change of ingredients. I didn’t fancy smearing paste all over my pits twice a day with something that costs enough to require a second mortgage. So along came this little fella on my suggestions and I am delighted! Nice smell (son says it’s like a National Trust gift shop, which is a big thumbs up), goes on easy, has lasted a month with 1-2 showers a day and best of all, I don’t pong. And that’s with a lot of sweaty dog walks, full-on physical gardening and weird menopausal hormones. Yes, you still sweat a bit, but it doesn’t smell bad. No marks on clothes either. It’s a winner.

Like putting on some scented water under my arms - doesn't work
I have used this for the best part of a month before giving up. I wanted to like this product due to the ethical credentials...but it just doesn't work sadly. It smells fine (melon-ish) and it rolls on fine, but after a few hours I could smell my own BO...great. Luckily I'm not in the office, but if I was, I would have gotten pretty self conscious. I've tried reapplying and also putting on 'two coats' after the first one dried or later in the day....but nope the same again. I only have to have a sweat inducing Teams meeting or a walk up the road and yep, there it is again, the faint (and sometimes not so faint) body odor returning. It really doesn't do anything to mask this and every day I had an awful smell on my tops of a cross between melon and BO - even my family noticed and commented on this. I switched back to my trusty Sanex and no such odor any more thankfully.

Brilliant - best natural deodorant I’ve tried
Had to leave a review for this as it’s so worthy! Having developed allergies during pregnancy my skin is just so sensitive and reacts to almost anything so I’ve been on a journey to cut out as many harsh chemicals as possible. I’m also sensitive strong perfumes even still at almost 2 years postpartum (joys of hormones and pregnancy) I’ve tried so many natural deodorants but I find them generally quite irritating - the bicarb irritates me in the hard stick forms and honestly I just found by the end of the day I was smelling a bit. I decided to give this a shot as it’s a roll on and it really is amazing! Benefits - 1. Doesn’t irritate my extremely sensitive skin 2. No white marks 3. I don’t smell by the end of the day so it’s clearly working! Yes it’s a bit wet when you apply but honestly I haven’t even been waiting for it to dry I’ve just been getting dressed as normal - hasn’t irritated my skin or my clothes! The scent is very subtle and wears off quickly which for me is a bonus but appreciate may not be for others. Converted!

Effective deodorant with a few ingredient considerations
This deodorant is slightly on the expensive side, but I actually don’t mind that because it performs well. It goes on a bit wet and takes a couple of minutes to dry, but I’ve worked that into my routine. So far it’s been effective for me, we’re not in the height of summer yet, but with other natural brands I often notice I’m not smelling fresh by lunchtime, which I really can’t stand. This one has kept me comfortable throughout the day. The fragrance is gentle and not overly coconutty. It’s not a “wow” scent, but it’s neutral and inoffensive, which I prefer. The main thing is that it works as a deodorant. A couple of ingredient notes that may matter to some people: I generally prefer deodorants without any form of aluminium. This one uses potassium alum, which has a very low absorption rate, and I’m personally comfortable with that, but I appreciate others may not be. It also contains Benzyl Salicylate, a synthetic fragrance component. It doesn’t irritate my skin at all (and I’m usually very sensitive), but again, it’s something others might want to be aware of if they react to fragrance allergens. On the positive side, I like that this is a small UK brand, they state that they use renewable electricity, and the formula is vegan‑friendly. I’m not vegan, but anything that reduces environmental impact and avoids animal testing is a small win in my book. Overall, this is a gentle, effective deodorant that works for my sensitive skin. I’m giving it 4 stars because it isn’t completely “clean” in terms of ingredients, but performance‑wise it’s been a pleasant surprise.

Initially impressed but since caused arm pain
I decided to try and get away from traditional deodorants in the fear they might be harmful. I decided on this brand as it was recommended to a friend who was recovering from cancer by their doctor. The funny thing is, I'm quite a sweaty person but when using this I actually sweat less than I do when using antiperspirant. Maybe it was always causing me to sweat more. Anyway, I'm very happy with it so far anyway. #### Update #### I have been using this for well over a year now. I was very happy with it initially and how well it worked. I started to develop a pain in my left arm, as too did my girlfriend. She too uses the pink version for women. We couldn't figure out what was causing it as we didn't remember having hurt it anywhere. We tried eliminating various this from our daily routine and when nothing was working we eliminated these deodorants. Within a week or two we both noticed considerable improvement in the pain in our left arms. Now I've basically no pain after not using it for over 4 weeks. Ideally I'd like to try it again to completely blame this but with the pain being pretty bad I'm not willing to go there again. Wherever is in this stuff must be pretty toxic or who knows what is causing the pain. The fact it was both of us also would point the finger very strongly at this stuff. I'm avoiding it from now on anyway 🤦🏻♂️

ingredients changed
This deodorant was the very best, before the ingredients git changed. They removed the probiotic and sodium bicarbonate from their formula, and they managed to changed something really good to be now a useless product. I am sure I am not the only one, who is unable to use their deodorants anymore, shame it really was a great product and a good value for money. They could have continued the old formula and make the new as well, but no. Their costumer service is simply ignore any communication. Not buying this product anymore, it does not even last half a day, whereas before, with one application I was fresh all day.

Affective, kind to the skin & environment. You can't go wrong!
I love this product range. Not only is does it contain kinder ingredients, but it's actually genuinely effective! It's an ideal size and glides on smoothly. No noticed stains left behind. The unscented version is really that, unscented. And the design is very clean & simple which I like a lot. My teens use this instead of your typically known brands which are harsher on the skin and the environment. They had previously been getting skin irritation, but as soon as they've changed over brand, they've had no more issues. They are really pleased and have nothing but high feedback on it. So much so that I'll now also be switching over. And an excited to try their scented versions. I'll make sure that I leave a review for you all 😊
