Are recent purchasers of this still getting the British edition?

Sellers InStock Group and langton_distribution are both UK based Sellers and not in the US. Anything you buy from them will likely be the British version instead of the US version. It appears they get complaints about them every now and then but it must not be a high enough percentage for Amazon to remove them.

how many players does this game accommodate?

It includes pieces for six players. However, if you have other trivial pursuit editions, you can add the player pieces and pie from those to hypothetically play with more.

Can this board be used with the original cards?

I would think so though the game has more current/accurate cards. The board's layout looks like the original board. Categories of this game are similar if not the same as the original game: Geography, Entertainment, History, Art & Literature, Science & Nature, Sports & Leisure. The card size for this game is 3 6/16" x 2 1/2".
