He has not been able to watch the mini series anywhere (unless it’s terrible quality) so this absolutely was worth it! Review: Sci-Fi that parallels the tale of Christianity - One of my favorite movies of all time and one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time!!! The music, the story, the colors are all in my opinion magnificent. I have watched this movie so many times over and over again I cannot even count how many times. It’s my favorite go to movie when I want sci-fi different, it never gets boring and I find something new I’ve missed. I find it relaxing but not boring I love the colors that emanate from the screen and are also quite relaxing and being Christian I find the uniqueness of how it parallels Christianity in the stories of Jesus Christ set in the very far future. I for one appreciate the viewpoint of this author and portrayed within this movie the difference of what may have been 2000 years ago and what is now. Of course that goes against many peoples beliefs hopes and dreams. I bought this disk as a back up for my original which I will store way. Unfortunately I’ve only been able to find it on disk and have not been able to find it where I could download the stream. I find the three different versions of this movie interesting. I recently bought a novel so I can find out exactly what the author truly wrote compared to what is portrayed in the movies. But even then I’m not sure I really want to… Lol I have both sets of movies Dune and children of Dune both are excellent movies in my opinion. If you do purchases I hope you enjoy as much as I!

Highly enjoyed
I love all things Dune, but I hadn't seen this version, and I couldn't find it on a streaming service. Anyway! They were a good price, arrived on time, and played back perfectly. I liked that they were true to the books. The quality of the special effects didn't bother me because the story and acting were great.

A Mostly Excellent Blu-ray Edition of Two Classic Sci-Fi Miniseries
This review pertains specifically to Umbrella Entertainment's (Australia) 2-disc, Region-A/B/C Blu-ray release titled Frank Herbert's Dune Collection, which includes both Dune (2000) and Children of Dune (2003). Overall, these are high-quality Blu-ray presentations with crisp, sharp, detailed video and immersive 5.1-surround audio. They are a significant upgrade from the prior DVD editions, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them again this way. If English subtitles are important to you, note that Dune (2000) includes them, but Children of Dune (2003) does not. The page for this product at Umbrella Entertainment's Website and the Blu-ray packaging itself is somewhat misleading, stating that there are "English HOH" subtitles, but, again, that applies only to the first miniseries, Dune (2000). Also, the included 290-minute cut of Dune (2000) is roughly a half hour longer than the version originally broadcast in the U.S. Though some of the added scenes help to flesh out the story better, parents of young children should be aware that there are a few brief scenes of nudity in the longer cut. The Australian "M" content-rating label on the case says nothing about the nudity, oddly enough. Overall, this is a very nice and welcome presentation of two classic Dune miniseries, but I have taken away one star due to the lack of subtitles in Children of Dune (2003). The old U.S. Region-1 DVD edition included English and Spanish subtitles, so that's kind of disappointing.

As good as hoped.
It has been difficult to find a decent copy of these. For DVD, the quality is really good. Very satisfied.

Allow me to be the first to admit that I was mistaken in my First Review (shown below). After getting a New Blu Ray Player, these discs performed excellently. I was using an ancient "First Generation" Blu Ray Player that couldn't read the Newest Blu Ray Formatting. In the end, I HIGHLY recommend buying this set, if you are a Frank Herbert or Dune Fan. You will not be disappointed. This Blu Ray Disc freezes at multiple different times. The last time it froze (#3) an error message appeared that said "Disc Error, Not playable on this device". That was on Episode #2. Episode #1 played without an issue.

Laughable Special Effects but fantastic character development and storytelling.
Frank Herbert's Dune has been around for decades and it surprisingly stands the test of time. This production of it had sub B-movie special effects which could be difficult for some viewers to accept since television production has advanced so much since this was filmed. However, this telling of the story is a fantastic introduction to the series if you've never read the books, as well as an enjoyable take on the classic. Children of Dune has better production values and special effects but it's the story and character development that once again shine brightest. If you've seen the newest iteration of the Dune property, you may be shockingly surprised at how similar the story told in the Dune miniseries is to the first movie.

Excelente serie, pero ...
Me gusta mucho la serie, pero considero que la calidad de video es muy similar a la del DVD. Si tiene el DVD creo que no vale mucho la pena. Si no lo tienes, comprala ya!

Most complete adaptation to date
Not as flashy as the earlier deLaurentis adaptation, not as well paced as the latest Villeneuve one, but more faithful to the books than any of them, and the only one so far that reaches the beginning of God Emperor. Too bad it didn't continue with the book series.
