GIANT miniatures!
I know, it's an oxymoron but it truly describes the main attraction to this game! Talk about table presence! Just the theme (fantasy vs post apocalyptic) was enough to hook me, but the GIANT miniatures got all my friends wanting to have a go at seeing who can survive all out war! Now besides the gaming components, the gameplay itself is fantastic. The game is a cross between a skirmish battle and deck builder that is easy to learn. Everytime you defeat an opponent you get a victory point, get 7 and you win! The battles are won with a roll of the dice, but there are ways to mitigate "bad" dice rolls with special character abilities that can be upgraded. Each roll of the dice (whether you are attacking or defending) grants you upgrade points that can be used to make your deck stronger with better cards, get rid of cards that aren't helpful, and upgrade those abilities! And all of this can be completed in about 30-40 minutes! The game box says 2-7 players and that's because besides the versus game mode, there is a "battle royale" mode where each of the games GIANT miniatures can face off! You can even pick up special weapons to help with the carnage! You get all of this game for a great price, especially considering the cost of plastic miniatures in tabletop gaming these days! You come for the GIANT miniatures and stay for the engaging gameplay with Gatefall. Definitely one of my favorite games that I stumbled upon watching a YouTube video that I'm super happy I purchased. If you buy the game and are itching for more, consider backing the Kickstarter expansions. Jack Dire has come up with some amazing content to keep this game fresh and fun for a very long time!

Fun game with massive miniatures!
Let me start by saying this game has some of the biggest miniatures I've ever seen in a game. Components are top quality and the game is very easy to learn but there is a lot of strategy to it. The only con is they don't provide enough storage compartments for all the game pieces so half the pieces are just thrown in the box. Other than that, great game!

Gatefall
I was drawn in by word of the large “miniatures”...those delivered- wow! High quality/detail! Beyond the figures, the game is fun too. It’s a game my kids can enjoy as much as my husband & I.

Wow! A fun, great introduction to miniature gaming
I received this game specifically to write a review. That said, I try to be honest and open in all my reviews.(Please see the enclosed pictures.)Summary: This is an introductory miniatures game for two teams or players. One team takes the fantasy team, and the other takes the high tech, post-apocalyptic team. Each miniature has a unique set of abilities, movement rate, attack strength, defense strength, etc. Each turn, a player lays down seven cards that contain a combination of action points, healing, and zeroes.Combat pits one miniature against another. In the basic mechanic, the attacking player rolls dice equal to its attack strength, and the defending player rolls a number of dice equal to its defense. The game comes with a uniquely marked set of dice. During combat, the number of skulls rolled determines the success of the attacker or defender. If the attacker gets more skulls, the defender takes the difference in skulls in damage. There are many nuances in the game. When you roll the dice, you can get points to use for a variety of upgrades to each players' draw deck. For the lowest number of points, you can remove one "zero" card from your draw deck. For slightly more, you can upgrade a single miniature's ability in one area. Once every area has been upgraded, you can start to use the miniature's special ability. For the most points, you can add a number of good cards to your draw deck. Each miniature has a victory point value, when a player accumulates seven points, he or she wins. There is one variation of the game, the arena game. In this version, each player plays only one miniature, and the game adds special items. On to the Dr Games’ Criteria …GO/NO GO Criterion• Complexity: (GO) The game is relatively straightforward. There are essentially two games in one. First, it is a tactical miniatures game. Second, it is a work replacement game by changing out the cards in the draw deck.• Balanced: (GO ) The two teams, fantasy and high tech, are perfectly balanced. There clearly was a lot of play-testing that went into this game, and it shows.• Chance (GO) The game is a good balance between risk and skill.• Clarity: (GO) The rules are absolutely perfect. The font is large enough that you do not need to squint to see them. The rules are full of helpful illustrations. Each situation is clearly spelled out.• Reasonable Time: (GO) You can play a whole game of the base variant in about 45 minutes. I did not play the arena variant, but it looks to be a quick play too.Bonus Criteria• Social: There is nothing that would generate special social engagements in this game.• Unique/Interesting Mechanics: The combination of base miniature games, work substitution, and the chrome from the special abilities. The game has a high replay value.• Informed: Nothing in particular to inform in this game.• Rewards Throughout: Every defeat of an enemy bags you victory points, and you cannot lose them. All in all, this is a great introductory game for miniature players.
