Great Sketch book
The paper is great quality. My Micron and Pentel pens do not bleed through. I love you color and the size is comfortable to carry around.

Very substantial sketchbook. Upgrading from Moleskine.
If you're coming from Moleskine sketching like me, this sketchbook is slightly bigger and features white paper as opposed to ivory. A real step up in my opinion. This item (my Port Red A5) arrived shrink-wrapped and free of defects.

New Favorite Sketchbook
This sketchbook is highly favorable for pencil, chalk, ballpoint pen, and ink. Polychromos or other oil-based colored pencils really get some mileage here. This paper can take water-based Tombow or Talens Ecoline markers if you like to use those, and can also be used with Rohrer and Klingner Sketch Ink. Will absolutely be trying Federal Color's Optimist line in here. I enjoy that the books come with spine and cover labels and have a small back pocket. Not sure where people are reading they could use watercolor on this. This paper weight and type aren't rated for watercolor, and anyone who uses alcohol marker enough knows that this weight isn't suitable for the heavy saturation of alcohol markers, anyway. The lower ratings are from people who don't bother to research their materials before they buy them. It's not the sketchbook's fault you bought the wrong paper for the wrong purpose. This is thicker than Moleskine, but not heavyweight.

Love these journals!
Leuchtturm journals are so much better than Moleskins (and the others), and on so many levels: better paper, two ribbons (which of course is better than one ribbon), numbered pages and a corresponding table of contents (not in the sketchbooks but hey…), and a sheet of blank stickers for the cover and spine to label your many volumes! Perfection.

Really enjoying this book.
I’ve sued it for marker, acrylics and ink. It’s holding up nicely. The markers do show through the pages but that’s to be expected. I also like the size it’s slightly wider than my last sketchbook.

A Moleskine replacement
I finished a Moleskine sketchbook recently and wanted to try something different. So I purchased a Leuchtturm1917 which has some positive and negative aspects. It’s a solid well-built sketchbook and allows you to draw a slightly larger landscape dimension than the Moleskine. The pages are pure white (as opposed to the cream colour of the Moleskine) and are fairly thick. Unfortunately I find that a drawing on one page will cast a slight shadow on the verso side of the page. This never happened with a Moleskine. Although some people may not find it very bothersome, I prefer to skip a page when drawing to avoid that shadow. Would I buy it again? Both Moleskines and Leuchtturms are fairly expensive. I’ve found a Royal Talens sketchbook recently which is half the price and seems to be good quality. I still need to experiment more with it before I can truthfully say it beats the other two.
