Great case for an I pad subjected to hard use
This is my second Otter Box defender and I highly recommend them for people that need a high level of protection for their device. While bulky, and not the most attractive case for sure, I have never had an I pad broken when in one of these. My first I pad was used mainly on construction sites and was used in a very rough environment, dropped often, dirt and dust, gotten wet, etc. It's not fully waterproof but this case is probably as good as you can get and still be able to use all the functions.Buying at Amazon was $20 cheaper than at the electronics store.

This OtterBox Defender Series Does Not Disappoint...It's Fantastic!!!
I've used OtterBox Defender Series cases on all of my phones and I was always very impressed with protection that it provided to my phones. Every one of my phones look like new when they were removed from the cases (and I keep my phones for at least 5 years before getting a new one). This OtterBox Defender Series case is for a 9th generation 10.2" iPad that I just purchased. The OtterBox case comes with a protective screen on the top section of the case, so, no installation of a protective film is not necessary. Once the iPad is safely encased in the OtterBox (go to YouTube and find a video to show you how to open the OtterBox case because I needed to go there to find out how to separate the top from the bottom of the OtterBox Case because there are no instructions included with the case) you will notice just how completely protected the iPad is. included is a secondary cover that you can put your OtterBox protected iPad into (with the screen facing down into the cover which snaps into place. Use this cover whenever you're transporting your iPad anywhere or when traveling. There is a handy place to store a pen if you have one with your iPad. Some people may say that this Defender Series case is a bit overkill in how it protects the iPad, however, I plan on keeping this iPad for a long time and I feel that this case gives me the peace of mind that it is secure and safe from whatever incidents will happen in life to damage it.

Good protection
The pros yes it comes with a built in screen protector, yes it does fit the 9th generation iPad. The other reviewer must have received the wrong case. It is not waterproof (don’t submerge it) I would consider it water resistant to rain. I don’t consider it heavy and the texture does help grip the iPad and keep it from sliding off a table. This comes as 4 pieces if you’ve had the otter cellphone holders you’ll know. There’s two pieces that snap around the iPad and click together. To separate them look carefully around the sides and look for all the plastic tabs that hold the two pieces together. Start at a corner take a finger nail or small screwdriver and carefully pry the two pieces apart about a 1/16” with a finger nail carefully pull the tabs out enough just enough to release them from their tabs, work your way around the perimeter of the case. Put the iPad inside the bottom piece and carefully snap the top piece back on. Take the rubber back piece and slip the iPad inside it work around the edge slowly peeling the rubber sides out a little and massage it into the groove in the top plastic piece. Now the cons I’ve used otter cases for years and love them. There expensive but the only week point I’ve found in the cellphone cases has been the holder that clips on you belt. The clip breaks. They use a similar bracket for the iPad for when you don’t want hold the iPad want to have the stand at an angle for say using a keypad or watching video. Here’s where otter dropped the ball. Inside this bracket is another hinged plastic piece that fold up you nestle the iPad in between this piece and the plastic pieces on the corners. So the iPad can be self standing. The problems are there’s nothing keeping the iPad locked in this bracket and can be easily knocked out of the bracket. Inside with this bracket are also two plastic tabs to hold a ipen. The bigger problem is this large plastic bracket can be snapped on the front or back of the iPad. Snapped on the back it’ll keep you ipen from getting lost. But if you snap the bracket on the front of the iPad it makes a a durable screen protector if in a book bag or having something tossed on top of it. Where there are no instructions one would think you could install it on the front or back of iPad. BUT there is no clearance between that small hinged plastic piece to angle the iPad or the pieces that hold the ipen. Anything hits this will push those pieces into the screen possibly damaging it. With no instructions it’s an expensive lesson to learn. Bottom line as a protector for the iPad it’s good. The stand alone feature is like cheap after thought. I’ll probably cut out the hinged piece etc so I can snap it on the front for additional protection. It’s to bad for the $$ you spend they didn’t come up with something better considering the environment an iPad is in

Perfect
Durability— the case grips, it fits just how it is supposed to, and bulkiness with the cover.

Exactly what I expected from Otterbox
I've used Otterboxes for at least 6 years and they're fantastic. Minimal damage to my devices even when dropped and they've provided me replacements for free when the case has broken to due wear and tear if it's still being produced. This case for the iPad is great. The plastic screen protector is easy to remove if you want to use an apple pencil and have more responsive touch. The case says not to store the pencil in the case but there is a place to snap it on so it can travel with the iPad in the case. Unfortunately, it does not have anywhere to securely store the lightning/lightning adapter to charge the pencil. The stand is nice to use in the kitchen when using recipes as well.
