At first it takes a little while. I'd say 30-40 seconds. Once it gets going it does a fantastic job. Beats a torch or lighter cubes. Sustainable and reusable.

This item does work well but takes a bit to get hot roughly 2-3 minutes until I get the Kamado grill going. It’s built decent but the switch you have to pull and hold back feels cheap and is not very comfortable as it has to be held the other entire time you’re using it. There are other brands out there at local box store for half the money that appear to be same quality that I wished I tried first

My first test with this bbq electric starter, in a word: impressive.Ambient temperature 58F, humidity 25% with a fuel source of axe breaker large lump charcoal. The initial preheat of the bbq starter was 45 seconds prior to directing at coal source.After 45 seconds warm up time: time to first bright orange ignition of large lump coal: 30 seconds. Repeated 6 times, 30 seconds average time to initiate burn.Electric burner held at 1/2 inch from the chunk of coal then moved to another spot, total time 1 minute including initial preheat of 30 seconds.My kamato reached 400F in 16 minutes, with 6 different burn locations and full open vents.Conclusion, this electric starter is very fast to start a bbq Kamato grill under conditions stated. The quiet fan is an added feature to fan the initial coals greatly increasing the fire. Very happy with this starter. Well made, quick, quiet and ease of operation with a pull of a switch. I have received nothing for this review.
