Not a cheapened big box store variant! MADE IN USA! It just works!
My reviews are brutally honest, and I can back up anything I say. My reviews also sometmes make people angry, though Im not trying to, because I offer up inside information that most don't know about. Read it with an open mind. Im trying to educate.Amazon has by far the cheapest price on this particular drop-head 6 foot auger. Another big box store that uses the color ORANGE a lot whos motto is "You can FIX it, we can help" (they use the wrong F word btw) has the same model for the same price. I dont shop at that store (or their abomination of a competitor) so I got it here. Look, Im a plumber of over 20 years. Ive seen 1st hand how these big box stores negotiate with the manufacturer for a better price and end up totally destroying the quality of a once great brand and item (::cough:: DELTA FAUCETS). I was working at a small plumbing parts house back in the 90s and I saw the difference in the items with my own two eyes. The big box stores sold Delta faucets with plastic parts where ours had stainless. Plastic threads where ours were brass. Their copper pipe was LESS THAN HALF as thick as ours! I have family who owns manufacturing businesses, and I have clients as well who do, and I have heard 1st account stories of big box stores haggling the prices with the manufacturers, cheapening the product, and in some cases even demanding the manufacturer put the cheapened item in an original box (which is unethical).I trust General Wire. You can call them, and they answer. They have knowledgeable staff. They make these right here in the USA, and it shows in quality. As best I can tell, Amazon is selling the original quality item, so my advise to you, a consumer, is either buy this type item from a local small business, or buy it here on Amazon, but AVOID the big box home improvement stores! Just don't even go in them at all. This auger works great, but its NOT for every toilet. Ive met a few already that it wouldn't fit in. As a plumber, I need the absolute best tools money can buy, and I searched exhaustively, and this is it. Now with that in mind, I will admit that this new auger is NOT the 20 year old beast Im removing from my van. It IS made cheaper! But isn't everything made today? Its still the best out there. A classic example of why you might want this one is as follows. My next door neighbor watches my plumbing shop on his cameras. So I dont always charge him for service jobs. I brought the standard General Wire auger out to his home and ran it the full 6 feet. The ProFlow toilet he has still wouldn't flush. I told him give it a day, use your other toilet, and 2 days later hes calling again. This time I ran the same regular head auger and it still wouldn't flush. I then got this DROP HEAD auger, and ran it. It was a bit more difficult to get it through the trap, but I managed. It cleared the toilet perfectly! So will it work on every toilet? NO. Will it work where a regular auger wont? MAYBE and for me YES. i use this one as a secondary. I try the original 1st and if it doesn't work THEN I try this one. Thats what I recommend you do as well.Im sure I angered some fan boys so if you found this review helpful PLEASE hit that HELPFUL button. If you disagree with my conclusions please (before you rate my review as false) do a little research online. Search out "cheapened big box products" on your favorite search engine. You'll see Im telling the truth. Now hit that HELPFUL button PLEASE! :) I like helping people make an educated choice, and Im speaking from experience because I have to deal with this issue every day of my life..

Heavy Duty, Git ‘er Done, Toilet Clog Buster
This is a review of the General Wire SpringI-T6FL-DH tool. Here are two ways to save money: (1) Install a good ole’ fashion, crescent-moon-on-the-door, Sears-catalog-on-the-seat, hole-in-the-floor, outhouse. Or, (2) invest in one of these powerhouse, dam busting, down-and-dirty, toilet drain clean out tools. The last time I had to call a plumber to get that nasty job done it cost me $45, and that was the discount price. I watched the plumber use his General T6FL-DH (Yep, I watched him do it. It’s kinda like driving past a bad car accident... you don’t want to look, but you do it, anyway.)Three minutes older and forty-five dollars poorer, and I knew, before the day was over, I was going to order one of those tools from Amazon.I received my shinny new General T6FL-DH (They’ve got to come up with a better name for it), a couple days later. Of course, it didn’t stay shinny for long; seems we have a clogging problem. Within the short time I’ve owned Big Bertha, (There, I’ve given her a proper name), I’ve sent her into battle three times, so far. At $45 a plumber’s visit, I’ve already saved ... Well, you do the math, and don’t forget the tax.“Big Bertha” is one heavy, long reaching, built-to-last (I hope), git-‘er-done, made in the good ole’ U.S. of A., pooh-bustin’, drain-cleanin’ tool. And she’s cheaper than the cost of an outhouse.Would I recommend this tool to a friend, you ask? Sure, if it ever comes up in casual conversation, I would.

A little unweildy, but works great
I was a little worried I was going to break the toilet in half with this handle; that curved part that is shielded to prevent scratching your porcelain is surprisingly large and just barely fit into the opening, and while trying to wedge it in there the handle is a very large and powerful lever against the bottom of the bowl. It takes a lot of twisting to maneuver the snake through all the curves in the plumbing, and sometimes it stores up the torque and twists back. Getting past the 3 foot mark requires you to detach the handle from the snake inside it, pull the handle back to fully extended, and get the snake to engage with a second attachment near the bottom. That's a little scary, especially given all the twisting--it seems like it might be possible to miss and accidentally pull the handle out completely, which at best would be awkward and a bit messy to deal with. That also describes dealing with this tool after you've used it successfully. But all that said, it's well worth the trouble, and once you've got it into the pipes, it's gonna be no trouble ramming it through just about any level of clogs (don't imagine you could cut through a tree root, and managing to snag something like a toy might be tricky and take a few tries, but anything that can be broken up will be for sure.)

I've tried this twice, the first toilet it didn't go through. It did the trick on another toilet though. It depends on the type of the toilet, the drop head is very large.... I prefer general pipe cleaner for this kind of tool over ridgid. I wash and soak the cable in clean motor oil after use,

This was excellent. After lots of research I thought I would pay more for a tool a professional would use and I was not disappointed. Dislodged a plastic type toilet freshener that was wedged. Excellent product. Given the cost of a plumber I now have something that can be used again,
