Bird Feeder Cups with Clamp Mount on Standing Perch, 2 Stainless Steel Cups for Food and Water, Compatible for halinfer's All Bird Carrier and Backpack Wooden and Rope Perch

This was easy to clip on to my budgie’s perch. The problem is that the clip is not stainless steel, and it WILL rust.I actually contacted the seller before using this to confirm care instructions. I wanted to double-check the material of the bowls (apparently 204 stainless steel), and I wanted to make sure I could put this in the dishwasher. The seller told me they were dishwasher safe.Well, I never actually got around to running them through the dishwasher. I had the bowls up with seeds on one side and water in the other for one day. When I pulled them down to clean and refill, I already noticed that the clip was rusting—and that was before any handwashing or dishwashing attempt. It just rusted from water spilling on to the clip when my bird landed on the cup. That’s so ridiculous from a wear and tear standpoint. Rust is toxic to birds and the clip cannot be removed from the bowls—so it can’t be replaced with something safe.There is absolutely no way this could have survived being run through a dishwasher. The clip would have collected water during the cycle, and that would have worsened the rusting.I tried to remove the rust, and used the bowls a couple more times, handwashing and drying quickly by hand with every use, but this really wasn’t a good idea. Any amount of rust near a place where your bird perches, eats, drinks and rests is totally unsafe. I should also note that it’s difficult to ensure it’s always getting 100% dry inside the clamp due to the way the mechanism comes together. After just a few days of very light use, the clamp was VERY rusty (see photo).Luckily I discovered the problems before the return window closed and was able to return this to get my money back.I definitely don’t recommend buying this or any similar clamp style cup set where the cups cannot be removed from the clamp for proper washing and drying.I will say that the size was decent for a smaller bird and would also work well for a medium-sized bird, and that they were easy to install. The seller was responsive even if the information they provided regarding care was inaccurate. It was also affordable. But none of that can make up for an unsafe product. Manufacturers really need to learn that ALL of the metal components on things for use around birds and their mouths need to rust-resistant / made with bird-safe materials.
