The brilliance is in its simplicity and practicality.
This book illuminates the importance of the inner journey above all. I believe anyone can benefit from the books content. It has resonated greatly with me being of African extraction. I am not left angry and most importantly having no remedy. African Spirituality expressed through Ma'at is a sane, authentic and peaceful way to coexist in America as lesser forms do in nature. Without the permission or limitations set forth by others, I can be truly free, enjoy peace, happiness, success, abundance and prosperity as I unfold into my Best African Self without compromise. What a wonderful read!

Excellent book, logically written and eye opening.
I needed to read this book when I was younger. I have been studying Egypt and found this book insightful, honest, and well written. As much as the racism is true, I will for one, strive to be a better person after reading this book. Well Done...

The book starts off talking about Moses being an Egyptian with allegiance to Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. The evidence for this ensues in the following few pages as you realise the 42 Laws of Ma'at is a reverse explication of the newer document that Moses inscribed by divine inspiration - the one we know as 'The Ten Commandments'. Doubtless. If you wanted a child to be able to situate each Mosaic law into a real life premise applicable to real world conundrums, the 42 Laws of Ma'at would give real insight into the angles of light that disperse across each commandment. Furthermore, Latonya spends the rest of the book speaking from the heart about how to apply these principles to your ethics and moral outlook. If you told the child this was an ordinary person speaking from the heart about their experience of Ma'at, I think the book would suffice as a great bridge between the original source material of the Commandments and the modern Biblical account we have which is surely a refinement of these same laws. The same child could be encouraged to write a diary every few days about their moral conundrums and how they confront and overcome these scenarios using their understanding of the Mosaic laws and the specific examples given by the 42 Ma'atian laws. The main flaw with this book is that the background detail given for how the Pyramid texts of Unas were discovered in 1888 and held these 42 Ma'atian laws in writing. I don't know the story myself and honestly thought the book might have given a good history lesson. Ma'at is an actual Goddess figure who is the daughter of Ra, the Helios figure and the representation of the soul passing the Dusk to Dawn phase of renewal. So she passes judgement on her on father every night. She is an early feminist figure in this sense, and a strong figure that would merit her own background being explored. The addition of the above would have made this book a five star rating. The ease of which you can read this cover to cover is actually a very smart way to present laws that are so central to leading a good life that you can clearly see the folly in replacing such a book with a more scholarly work. Yet, where the history is touched upon at the fringes of the book, laying a little more background as mentioned above would make this close to perfect. Enjoyed reading. Will look into more of this Author's work.
