I have a couple of decent full sized umbrellas, but I've always just used cheap travel umbrellas which just don't work all that well, fall apart quickly, and are a pain to use. Immediately upon unboxing this umbrella you realize it's something different due to the heft of it. Rather than reading the directions as I should have, it took me a minute or so fiddling with it to figure out how it deploys and retracts. It's actually much simpler than cheaper ones. You simply loosen the velcro strap and push the button. There's no catch you have to push the collar past to mess with. To retract you simply push the button again and push the two ends together. At any rate my first couple of uses out of this thing has managed to impress me with the quality and utility of it. Time will tell if it lasts, but so far I'm quite happy with my purchase and would certainly buy it again. The guy that made the alleging they lied about the 60mph testing apparently can't read all that well. They clearly say the umbrella is tested to 60mph GUSTS which is quite different than 60mph sustained winds the guy is trying to test the umbrella for. I'm sure he thinks he's smart lashing the umbrella to his truck and filming the thing going down the road, but I was laughing hysterically by that point at how inept he was. If you ever find yourself in 60mph sustained winds and manage to hold on to an umbrella that's not going to fold up, I'm pretty sure you're going to be doing a pretty good Mary Poppins impression.

Living in Southern California, we don't get much rain here and we have been in a serious drought for several years. So as rain was forecasted in our area, I decided it may be a good time after many years to actually shop for a umbrella on Amazon. This umbrella is of great quality and is able to stand up to strong winds without ever turning inside out once in the time I've used it. Made with quality materials and is stylish with its black/grey color. Easily folds up into its sleeve for storage and can fit in a backpack or purse. I've never had an umbrella that has been able to stand up to harsh weather like this one, so I would highly recommend it to anyone in a windy area.

Umbrella at first seemed like a really great one, especially considering the great reviews. For the first few months it worked perfectly in the few rain showers it was used. However after the first 4-5 uses, it no longer closes properly for an unknown reason when I try to retract it. I have to hold the top of the umbrella and pull very strongly down to get it to close, then immediately tied it shut. It feels like it could burst open any minute, let alone after I already got my hands wet from trying to close it. Not happy about this!!

Seems like a great product. Very well made, sturdy, easy to open and close, and I love the blue sky design inside. It is not as small or light as I was looking for to carry around in my pocketbook, but I guess that’s the price to pay for durability and resistance to wind force. I really like the umbrella and am looking forward to using it in a thunderstorm. Bought another one as a gift for my daughter and would recommend to friends.

The umbrella is attractive, sturdy, and easy to open. I like its small size in its unopened state. The push button easily opens the umbrella but it takes a stronger press to shut the umbrella. Something to consider: The umbrella opens quickly. Be careful where you open it. It opens so quickly it may knock something over or inadvertently push against someone. I am going to take a vacation to a country that's known for its typhoons. I think I'm ready.

Unfortunately it isn't a good $25 umbrella. First the good. It seemed to hold up well to moderate San Francisco winds. It does have the fiberglass (think fishing pole) ribs. Old style aluminum ribs break within hours of being bent. Fiberglass is pretty common now though, even at the local Walgreens drug store. As far as size, it's fine/average for one person. Don't think for a minute though that it is in any way adequate for two as I've seen suggested. Now the not so good. The telescoping shaft is in three sections and feels it. It may or may not prove to be a long term strength issue but having it wobble and twist makes it hard to control in the wind. This is made worse by the fact that the grip is so short. I'm 6' tall, I can only grip it with two fingers. In addition to quickly tiring out my hand I found the button very awkward to push. Finally, I can't (am too lazy to) get a good photo but on my purchase the hem around the circumference has about 1/4 inch where the stitches missed the seam. While not earth shattering, this will absolutely start to fray over time. While not a horrible product, it is a very poor value. You can easily find something comparable for a lot less money.

Even though weather has not necessitated a use, my husband and I have handled the umbrella and agree that it is a high quality umbrella. I started out to replace my husband's umbrella. It was what we thought was a durable umbrella but I loaned it to a friend and it came back very beaten up. So I set out on what turned out to be a quest for a new umbrella that would meet my husband's requirements of durable and compact. I researched many options. As I read about the Crown Coast umbrellas they seemed to be the one to beat. Then I started to think about people I know who could also use a quality umbrella ( really everyone) and decided the umbrellas would be wonderful gifts. I ordered eight. As soon as you handle the umbrellas you can tell that everything about it is well made and a quality item. I will be proud to give them this Christmas.
