Engine check codes cleared but...
Now the Transmission seems to be locked in OD. To drive the vehicle to be garaged I had to manually shift starting from the shifter's 1-2 position and shift to 3. Shifting into OD at speeds of between 30-40 mph exhibits an apparent run-away condition that accelerates. Before I bring it in to have the Transmission rebuilt, I will unplug the tcu and see if manual shifting appear normal to try to isolate whether the problem is mechanical or electrical. And sometime next week I will install a new OMIX trottle position sensor to see if that makes a difference. Otherwise I found an excellent transmission shop...

You can do this.
I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ with the AW4 4-speed automatic transmission. Recently the Check Engine light came on. The codes were P0700, P0753 and P0715 which are all related to the transmission. I bought this set of solenoids because of reviews on Amazon and the Jeep forums. (Very good DIY article with photos: (...) In the attached post-installation photo (front of vehicle is to the left) the YELLOW circles indicate the shift solenoids (orange leads) and the WHITE circle is the overdrive solenoid (blue lead) and the RED circles are the electrical connectors.Removal/Installation is easy: Unscrew the bolt holding a solenoid. Disconnect the plastic electrical connector. Pull steadily on the body of the solenoid to disengage it from the transmission. Installation is the reverse but make sure you attach each BLACK lead to it's solenoid's attachment bolt. This provides ground as well as keeping the wire out of the way. The black band on each solenoid is one of the enclosed plastic wire retainers. This isn't probably necessary but since I had them I used them. They just clip on but you have to be sure not to cover the vent holes in the solenoid. These are easy to see once you have them in hand.CAUTION: As I said, installation is easy but I would caution you to be very careful when disconnecting the wire connector from the old solenoid. These connectors have been bathed in hot oil for at least 15 years so they will probably be brittle. Trust me on this.If you have the tools and skills to change the transmission filter, you can change these solenoids. If you do attempt this job I would recommend purchasing/installing a new filter and pan cover gasket. They're not that expensive and you've already done the dirty work. Good Luck.

They Worked!
I installed these in an AW4 transmission for a 1998 Jeep Cherokee because it was throwing transmission codes. I couldn't get any transmission shop to do the repairs for at least 2 weeks. I finally gave up and did it myself. This job wasn't any tougher than changing the fluid and filter!I was impressed that the parts were made in the USA! Better still, they worked and cured my shifting problems.

False specs
This item did not fit my transmission on a 2000 keep Cherokee. Unfortunately didn’t find that out till I had my transmission opened up for install.

Great for an old Jeep
Easy install, only marginally harder than doing a filter and fluid change. The new solenoids with upgraded grounding wire was exactly what my old Jeep needed. The shifts are silky smooth now. I wish I had done this earlier. Before you let a mechanic convence you to replace the transmission, spend the $150 and an hour to try this. It's time and money well spent.

Improves 20 year old shifting issues
Best purchase for the AW4 jeep transmission, shifts are back to original firm feeling and no lag in overdrive

Works as it should
Great product, very easy install but no instructions. Comes with various brackets due to the use in various models so I had to figure out which ones were for mine.

After the install the engine code was easily erased and the transmission worked perfectly
Installed on a 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner - engine MIL showed shift solenoid "A" needed replacing. This kit provided all 3 so with the trans fluid drained and the pan off, instructions told what solenoid goes where - easy in and out - most difficult job was the removal and reinstall of the transmission oil pan.Parts were way cheaper than Toyota OEM and have worked well for over a month now.If you have the tools and inclination, you can save $$$ with this kit.
