exceptional :)
I bought this hardcover edition as a primer for casual reading several weeks before attending the "Van Gogh's Bedrooms" exhibit in Chicago. I'm very glad I did as the gift shop only offered the paperback version... and I didn't have to carry a large book around town afterwards. The overall book presentation is exceptional with references and close-up examples comparing the Amsterdam 'study' with the Chicago and Paris 'repetitions' respectively throughout. There is a comprehensive map and illustrated timeline in the very beginning of the book to help refresh and maintain perspective. This book is also chock full of faithfully rendered colorful photos of many other works during his last few years of life. This edition has a soft but firm matte finish (w/o paper cover).

Very Well Done Catalog for an Excellent Exhibit
Great for recalling the exhibit, which was fascinating. Van Gogh is one of the most interesting figures in art of the last 200 years, and this exhibit had great information and a wonderful group of his paintings. The catalog represents the exhibit well, but also goes beyond that with a selection of in-depth articles. Highly recommended!

Next level understanding of Van Gogh's work
Beautiful and insightful book about Van Gogh's very personal and productive period. It illustrates his paintings, techniques, color palettes and textures. It brings more understanding to his work than just a first round book about his overall collection of work and I think it is particularly interesting for other artists, researchers, collectors or scholars because it provides more details or his approach and methods than most other books about Van Gogh.

A peek into three bedrooms
Vincent painted three different versions of his bedroom in the famous yellow house. This study provides a sharp focus on all three works. The authors discuss Vincent's use of materials, his techniques, use of color, and subject matter. For readers interested in art and van Gogh.retired librarian with a degree in art .

Great study of these paintings and period of Vincent's life.
There's a lot of context and scientific research around these famous paintings. The quality of the book is superb and the information, too. Even if you are not a Vincent geek, I highly recommend this book.
