If you are interested in Historical fiction and specifically Afghan History then Khaled Hosseini is your go-to writer. I have read all of his books and learned so much about Afghan, history, heritage, and culture. The mountain echoed is another engaging book of Hosseini that envelopes both past and present simultaneously. A heart-wrenching family tale of the lost one and how it is important for a human being to know their true roots for the purpose of self Actualization.

After reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, I had high expectations from his work. I always wanted to read his works and always for some reason never got around to it. When I in India for our mini-vacation I asked my brother to order quite a lot of books from Amazon India. These were on the list and I was really happy with my purchase and the delivery as well. As I was reading this book, I realized that this is not from just one person's point of view, but the story is told from several other character's POV as well. I wasn't really expecting it and after the initial surprise had worn off, I really got pulled into the story of Abdullah and Pari. Because the story is told from different perspectives and different timelines as well, the depth of heartbreak was a lot less compared to The Kite Runner for me personally. It's not that the story didn't grip me or wreak havoc on my emotions, it was just the opposite, but I found myself being pulled into another world and another story before I could drown in the emotions the story made me feel. The way all these stories are so wonderfully woven together forming a beautiful, unforgettable reading experience is just amazing. The interconnecting storylines bring us more clarity of events and the motivations of these characters as well. Overall it's a story of love, family-bonds, life-journeys, and heartbreak. It's masterfully written and captures the hearts of readers and tugs their heartstrings effortlessly. This book is a great work on human behavior, characters whose actions and voices cause ripples that will carry from the past to the future. It's very well written and has a lasting effect on the reader as well. I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend checking it out. I gave it 5 stars.

Le livre est merveilleux, jolie écriture, l'histoire profondément touchante. La vie d'une famille se brise en mille morceaux, et, tel un puzzle, la suite est reconstituée par d'autres personnages en lien avec les héros. Certes beaucoup racontent une partie d'histoire pour disparaître ensuite sans qu'on apprenne ce qu'ils sont devenus eux-mêmes. Mais c'est la meilleure façon de reconstituer ce puzzle pour le rendre le plus réel possible et tellement émouvant. Tel un documentaire où les différents témoignages sont recueillis d'une si belle façon, l'histoire est parfaitement réussie. Mon premier roman de Khaled Hosseini qui m'a beaucoup ému.

I personally found it a book which has all the elements of a fictional story, KH has delivered a great work. You'll in no time get caught up with the story and protagonists. The way he managed to write the plot is something I found more amusing. A perfect read for me !

"And the mountains echoed" ripercorre 60 anni di storia afghana, calandoci nei suoi drammi collettivi attraverso le vicende individuali di 3 generazioni di personaggi, con la vicenda che si snoda fra Kabul e Parigi, la California e la Grecia. Hosseini ha una capacità innata di esplorare la psicologia dei personaggi, riconnettendola alle vicende di attualità del loro tempo: ognuno di essi incarna un ben definito archetipo umano, senza che ciò sfoci nella creazione di figure stereotipate ed esagerate. Certe parti sono veramente toccanti e drammatiche: preparatevi ad avere un nodo in gola e gli occhi lucidi, a maggior ragione pensando alle immagini tragiche innescate dal ritorno dei Talibani di agosto 2021. Difficile non associare Pari alle scene drammatiche dei genitori che affidano i figli ai militari americani all'aeroporto di Kabul. Hosseini - con la sua prosa scorrevole, armoniosa, emotiva - ci pone domande scomode su noi stessi e sull'ipocrisia della società occidentale. In quale personaggio ci ritroveremo? Nel cooperante greco Markos? Oppure nel personaggio mediocremente incerto di Idris in rapporto a Rosha? Un'opera meravigliosa che va assolutamente letta nella versione in lingua originale, ricca di termini ricercati.
