PENGUIN The Oracle: Fargo #11

Too padded,loses the plot.
Well, where do I start. Firstly,I do like Clive Cussler,I have most of his books. I like the Fargo adventures, but this one? I’m slightly disappointed. I thought at first, that it dragged on a little, but I don’t think that was quite the right description,I think “padded” is the right word. We start off as per normal, with the historic reference which I always thoroughly enjoy, and we read about the Vandal king having to find a sacred scroll . This is it,this is what the story will be about.... I hope. But no!We don’t really hear about it again until about chapter 78 then starts on in earnest about it again on about page 350 ( there are 399 pages) then it’s just over and done really quickly. So,what ‘s in the rest of the book....attempted kidnappings ,avoiding the bad guys and building a school? basically, nothing to do with the plot of the story. Also, you don’t get much idea where it is supposed to be set,it’s supposed to be north Africa,so why are the descriptions of the people in the story lacking. If it’s africa, why can’t they described accordingly, apart from names it could be anywhere in the world. It is not a crime to describe a persons ethnicity’,but you get the feeling they’ve been frightened ,in case of being criticised. The book is ok,but not as good as we would expect,I don’t know if the person assisting in the writing this time, has made a difference, but this book has put me off the Fargo series somewhat

It’s an exciting story
Have been reading Clive Cussler’s books for many years and never find them boring.Haven’t quite finished “The Oracle” yet but all I can say that it’s really exciting so far.

Christmas present
Bought as a present for a family member so I haven't read it. He seems very happy with his book though!

Poor offering
Having read all of the late, great Clive Cussler’s books I’ve always found the Fargo adventures to be the weaker category of story but The Oracle and also the recent Grey Ghost are just poor, padded and lacking any real bite until almost the very end. Glad to finish it and give it away.
