Primary 6 class reviews. Belfast
Recently our class just finished WLTGO as our class novel and we absolutely loved it. We have already taken a vote and the children overwhelming voted for Simply the Quest as our next novel. The children wanted Maz Evans to know how much they enjoyed the novel, which she will hopefully read. As a teacher, thank you Maz for writing a wonderful story filled with joy, sadness, humour and so much more. You helped to bring our closer together through your storytelling, hopefully further sparking that love of reading that will last a lifetime. Keep up the great work!Take it away class:This book is amazing! It is full of funny chapters and characters. This book is about a boy named Elliot and his mother who is unwell. He meets the constellation Virgo and accidentally lets out a death daemon. He gets help from the Gods and Virgo and they go on an adventure to put him back. It is full of ridiculous and crazy things and trust me, right after you read the first one you will love the second and to me it's even better than the first. I really recommend this book to Primary 5, 6 and 7 children who love adventure and fun but I really think anyone could enjoy it. AqeelahI really enjoyed WLTGO and think others will too. Stunning
A review from Owen in Year 6:Who Let The Gods Out? is the debut novel in a quadrilogy. It is written by the utterly brilliant, yet utterly bonkers, Maz Evans. The story centres around Elliot, a young boy who is struggling in school due to his secret second life as young carer to his dementia-suffering mother. Elliott struggles to afford dust, so his whole world is turned upside down when gets a Really Scary Letter saying his house is going to be repossessed. Elliott and his mother will potentially be homeless. What Elliott doesn't anticipate it is that Virgo, a rebellious constellation who has snuck to Earth to feed Ambrosia to the mysterious Prisoner 42, will land with a (very smelly) splat in his cowshed. Together they make a great team. Not. What they actually achieve, is freeing the demon Thanatos and potentially destroying the Earth. Great job guys! Now, with the help of a few Gods, they need to right that wrong. This book is HILARIOUS. I nearly had to go to ASDA after I'd finished to replace my funny bone, as I wore the first one out laughing at this book. From confused train conductors, to lisping demons, via a tremendous showdown between a cunning devil and our reigning Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, there is never a dull moment. If I were you, I would purchase this book instantly. If you're stuck at your desk reading this, quit your job and get to Waterstones. You will not regret it. Maz should be very proud (and slightly concerned) at the brilliant and wonderful way her brain strings stories together. Quite frankly, Amazon need to add a 6th star, as 5 does not suffice for this book.A review from Mohammed in Year 6:I would like to review a book called Who Let The Gods Out? People will like this book because it has got sad moments, action and comedy. It's amazing because it has Greek mythology. My favourite character just has to be Sisyphus. This book is just perfect for children. I teach in key stage two and I am yet to find a class or child that do not adore this book. It's hilarious and very moving, full of wonderful characters and perfect for your best silly-reading-out-loud voices.

My students love this book and so do I!
My students have reviewed this book and I am sharing these reviews here.WHO LET THE GODS OUTThis book is about a boy called Elliot that goes on an adventure and finds Gods on the way so they can place the stone back in its rightful placeI really wanted to read this book because my friend recommended it to me and he said he enjoyed it a lot he let me read the blurb and that drew me in even more. I like it because it is an adventure story and I have always liked adventure storiesReviewed by Nyle age 11The author has a vision of new life! He uses myth legends (Greek gods). My favourite characters are OBVIOUSLY Elliot, Thanatos and Zeus (There all pretty mysterious characters, that’s what I like).I recommend this book who take lots of humour, basically that aren’t THAT boring (no offense (I take humour).Ali (M) 11yrs old

A riotously funny romp with a heart of gold at it's core
Elliot’s problems are getting worse. Mr Boil is desperate to expel him from school, his mum is sick and he has no idea how to make her better, his nosey neighbour is snooping around their farm again, and there's the Really Scary Letter that arrived three weeks ago. And if all that wasn't bad enough, an immortal constellation crashes through the roof of his cow shed leading to a whole new set of problems, namely the accidental release of Prisoner 42, and the arrival of the Olympian Gods to recapture him...Maz Evans’ debut deals with the harsh reality of a child isolating himself to protect a parent with a mental health illness, and the spiralling issues that it creates with a lightness and humour that foster empathy and hope in equal measure and reminds us of the power of friendship. With Gods that could have stepped straight off the set of TOWIE, a mix of perfectly timed slapstick and dry wit that works for children and adults alike, this is a riotously funny romp with a heart of gold at its core. Looking forward to the next one already.Great for fans of David Solomons, M.G. Leonard and all things Greek Mythology.

As times, heart-breaking and at other times side-splitting!
This is the story of Elliot, a perfectly normal 21 year old boy with the weight of his world on his shoulders. Trying to balance schoolwork, running his house, and looking after his mother, Elliot already has so much on his plate before Meeting Virgo, a constellation from Elysium and accidentally releasing Thanatos, the Death Daemon, thrusting him into a world of constellations, gods, and daemons on a mission to save the world, and more importantly, to save his Mum.My year 5 class have loved reading WLTGO in our English lessons, and we've produced some amazing writing based on the story. More than that though, the story has opened up some real conversations about Elliot's predicament and his mum's illness which are so important in teaching empathy and kindness to others. As times, heart-breaking and at other times side-splitting, Maz Evans strikes a perfect balance for Upper Key Stage 2 children while teaching a myriad of facts about the Ancient Greek Gods along the way. Would highly recommend.
