Ok but...
Cute book but the last pages have a ghost character that carries her own head which might be a little too scary for very small children.

Not a fan. Sorry :(
I just did not like this book at all. And neither did my daughter. We normally love this authors books but this one was a no-go for us.Pros: good quality, good value and colorful illustrationsCons: it just seemed extremely inappropriate and controversial for a 4 year old. I finished reading it thinking what the heck did I just read? I re-read it myself and it just isn’t good. Story line doesn’t make any sense, some of the stories seem borderline brainwashing on normalizing controversial topics and negative behaviors. I was not a fan and at parts it even seemed slightly violent. This is a hard pass for me but might be better with a child that’s more mature. Like maybe 8-10 years old.

Not as cute
We purchased to increase our collection. However this book will not make it into the rotation. My three year old doesn't like it and it doesn't keep my interest either. It's not cute and whimsical as the other books. Maybe more interesting for an older child? We cherish the rhythm and rhymes of the Whale and Snail, Room Broom, and Gruffalo, this missed the mark for us. The pictures are good and each page turn is about the books seen on the very first page. Nice idea.

Thought I ordered the hard cover. Story got a little long, too.
This one got a little long for me. Also, I didn’t double check to see that I accidentally ordered the paperback version. The book is an awkward size making it lots of work for your hands to both hold it and turn the pages. The thin pages are easily torn by 20 month olds. May be a better book for older children.

I love this, it's just a lovely bit of story-in-a-story surrealism
Before you start reading, take a glance at the opening spread. You see a boy's bookshelf, with titles such as "Fairy Tales From a Forgotten Island" and "Joust Joking!".You're about to read from each of these books. In order.See, Charlie sat down to read his faaaaaavorite book, about a pirate. And the pirate in his story starts reading a book about the three bears... who notice that Goldilocks stole their favorite storybook... in which a knight reads from his favorite joke book... and on it goes until it comes full circle with the ghost in the scary stories book settling down to read HER favorite book about a boy called Charlie.Every time you see a new book the font changes, you can see the dog-earred pages, there are little appropriate in-jokes - it's really very well done. It's a great concept, I think, and it's fun and fast to read.
