This is as I thought, the pentagons in the fullerene create a great tension between the links. This is anything that make me think about the stability of the real molecule. This model is very illustrative. Thank you.

This set is a definite favorite of all of my students. A few at a time (usually guys) will get together and collaborate to put together the great buckyball! It's also a fun lesson in molecular geometry as naturally the pieces are only going to fit together in a particular way in order to achieve the right overall shape.

I love my Bucky ball model! Someone commented about these carbons having 5 holes....in this case having 5 holes works the best (you ever only use 3 of them in this model configuration).
