Mostly Tips on How to Play/Interpret Piano Repertoire
64 pgs. About 35 songs/extracts. Most songs are 1-2 pgs. Extracts are 1-3 lines (4-5 bars/line).Sight-reading pieces, which I think are way too easy for the early advanced level:Sonatina in G Major Op. 151, No. 1 by Diabelli RCM 4.HOB. XV1/9 Scherzo by Haydn RCM 4, Trinity 2, AMEB 2, NZMEB 2.Stolzer Reitersmann (Proud Horseman) by Fuchs GCSE 3.Humming Song by Schumann ABRSM 2.Cheesecake Walk by Draper GCSE 5 (but looks a lot easier to me).Repertoire pieces:Poetisches Tonbild Op. 3, No. 5 by Grieg AMRSM 6, GCSE 6, AMEB 6, RIAM 7.Eintritt from Waldszenen Op. 82, No. 1 by Schumann GCSE 8, AMEB 6, NZMEB 6.Mignon by Schumann RCM 6.Jeering Song by Bartok RCM 6, LCM 4, GCSE 4, AMEB 2, NZMEB 3.Theory. Not much.:Harmonize a melody using a chord chart, and compose an answering phrase and harmonize that. 8 bars total.Write your own 2 line melody.Match parts of a score with definitions. (2 exercises, on pgs 38 & 41)A pg where you pretend you're assigning different instruments to a piano score to make an orchestral score.A pg on irregular time signatures. The few other theory exercises are just review. You have to already know about the topic to answer the questions. It's not taught in the book (like pg 7, which is a basic review of scales, fingering, arpeggios, key signatures, dominant and diminished 7ths; pg 22 -- 2 chord charts to fill in).Several pages on the history of the piano and several composers' bios with their respective style analyses.I'm not really sure how to rate the book, so I gave it a 4. I don't feel like recommending it, nor do I want to shoot it down. It really depends on what you're looking for, so I've just left a detailed description hoping to cover all the bases.
