Reinforces sexist stereotypes
I purchased this book after previously buying giraffes can’t dance. However, I did not like this book and no longer wish to read this to my son.As a Dad to a boy this book annoyingly reinforces negative stereotypes. A cute little penguin is scared of water, to which the Dad is very insensitive saying oh what a silly thing to say. Then his Mum needs to tell the Dad to be gentle before consoling the child that it’s ok to have fears etc. The Mum then helps him to swim whilst his insensitive uncaring Dad is nowhere to be seen.

A thought provoking read for everyone..
We got this book as we loved reading 'Giraffes can't Dance' by the same author and illustrator with our son. This story follows a similar narrative, in that the protagonist is, more gently here than GCD, spurned by thier peers, as they are afraid of the water. Before facing thier fears and overcoming.Notable to me here, it is the mother penguin whom aids the child to water, while the father penguin comes out with a bit of a dig at the child, never to be seen again in the book. Probably quite a real to life portrayal of parenting in humanity, but I belive penguins are actually quite a bit more progressive in thier gender roles with Mum and Dad penguin sharing many of the what and may be considered among humans as mothering roles. Gosh, this is turning into a bit of a thing. These books are actually quite thought provoking, well done Giles.

Really good message
We love this book and the previous 1 from the same author giraffe’s can’t dance. They both have important messages for little ones that they can understand and apply to there day to day lives. Great illustrations help as well.

A Loverly Book
Bought as a gift for a book loving 3 year old because he already has the brilliant "Giraffe's can't dance". This is another lovely book, easy to read with a good rhythm to the words. The illustration are very well done, on the second time of reading through it we spent time going round all the illustration (and subsequently all other times). It's not long but it is a nice book.

Lovely little book
The book is lovely, was looking for it everywhere as my 4 year old's been asking and asking for it. A bit more used than I was hoping for from "Very good" condition, but it's here and little one is happy!
