Rabbit Trap - Havahart 1030
This trap - the Havahart 1030 is outstanding. Very well thought out simple original design. When set properly, this trap will catch rabbits every time.My experience has been that subsequent versions of this design, such as the "easy set" model were not as effective and caused animals to escape several times while carrying the trap.Again, this solid, original design is outstanding and works every time. You need to set this trap properly by setting and tripping the trap to make sure that no rods or links are binding or catching on the side of the trap, and also that the door bails (locks) slide down easily into their slots and lock the trap.Adjustments can usually be made by small bends of the various rods - you should read the instructions for adjustment tips and visit the Havahart website for more information if you are having a problem setting the trap. What you don't want to happen is for a rabbit to trip the trap and escape - because you didn't test the trap, or didn't set the lock bails down against the top of the trap, etc. etc. Once that rabbit escapes, he will not enter the trap again - or so has been my experience. When used properly, this is an easy, safe and humane way to rid your yard of nuisance animals and is usually the method of choice because it doesn't hurt the animal.By the way, you hear a lot of stuff about the best baits to use. I know from personal experience that apples produce results.

Squirrels 2, Human 11
Once you figure out how to use this trap, it works like a charm. I've been using almond butter as bait, mostly because I had some in the fridge, but peanut butter is the standard attractant. I had a squirrel or squirrels who invaded my house through a bathroom fan vent and did considerable damage. I noticed that the pest control guy used this exact same trap, so I bought a couple from Amazon.Squirrels (or some other animal) have gotten in a couple of times and left without being trapped, but simply rebaiting and setting the trap up correctly right away ended up with the prey in the trap within hours. In general, depending upon placement, I've been getting squirrels quickly each time I set the traps out. I started out getting the varmints that were climbing around the walls of my house, but have since decided to try to get rid of the entire colony, if possible, although after getting 11 on a residential lot, I'm beginning to have my doubts about that. There's a lot of stuff written in comments here about relocating squirrels, spreading disease, they won't survive if relocated, yada yada yada. I'd like to know where the data for those conclusions come from. I live in a mountain town and there are many wooded areas within a couple of miles from my house, areas without adjacent houses. I've driven the squirrels to these places (I've spread them around) and let them go. I'd bet most of them have survived, and I doubt that squirrel diseases are concentrated in residential lots and that transporting a squirrel a few miles does anything to wildlife diseases in the area; does not pass the sniff test.Trap is well made and when properly used, it does what it purports to do. I'm waiting for the day when I don't hear any more of the squirrel yak yak yak noises, and then I'll know my house is safe, at least until my little Sherwood Forest gets repopulated.

Good Live Trap - Recommended
This Havahart Trap is well made and works as expected. The cage is big enough for small rabbits and just about any sized squirrel. We bought this to humanly catch the rabbits that feast on our small garden.Setting the trap is fairly straight forward but I only use one of the doors, leaving one end closed. This eliminates a possible point of failure that could let the animal escape. Squirrels will often try to get the bait from the side of the trap through the mesh, so be sure to place the food towards the center of the bar.Remember that these are wild creatures and should be treated as such. Wearing gloves is a good idea when freeing the captured pest as a bite or scratch from a rabid animal can be very serious. Rabbits can inflict fairly serious wounds with their claws, especially to young children (seriously, we raised them when I was growing up).Recommended!CFH

Performs as advertised
Performs as advertised, would be nice to have a plastic case bottom to place it in with a trapped animal to collect expelled fluids when relocating the animal that was trapped.
