M MAXIMUMCATCH Maxcatch Line Casting Stripping Basket for Fly Fishing

I have several "real" stripping baskets at home, with cones or studs inside them to keep fly line from tangling, but I really needed something I could pack in a bag for trips. Seems pretty straightforward - I even had a mesh, collapsible stripping basket years ago, which I can't find. But for whatever reason, it's been really hard to find something inexpensive and serviceable. This basket is great. It's just the right size - big enough to make stripping into it easy, but small enough not to get in the way of casting or stripping. It compresses completely flat. And at <25 bucks, it's relatively cheap. Sure, as others have pointed out, it won't really keep line from tangling - especially if you're wading in deep water with it, and the water is sloshing through the mesh and moving your line around. But if you want something you can pack in a travel bag for fishing on beaches getting your line coated in sand, this is perfect. For other applications, use a "real" stripping basket!

Big enough to strip 70 yards into basket and get smooth return casts. Light enough and stiff enough to slide around waist for obstruction free fish landing. This basket replaces an old worn out similar one that lasted me years of boat as well as surf fly casting for large saltwater fish.

This works as intended, but was useless because my fly line would still tangle badly in it. The hard stripping baskets have fingers that stick up and these prevent your line from tangling as you pull it out. But in this basket the line has nothing to prevent tangles. The good news is that it helps a lot in strong current which would otherwise pull your line and interfere with casting. In the end, though, I stopped using it over a 5 day trip because the tangles were worse than anything else and I'd have to stop fishing to clear the line.

After 4 trips using this basket, it works well and the price is good

I bought this for fishing on the salt for sea run cutthroat trout. It's ok, not great. Holds line I've stripped back but doesn't keep it from getting tangled. On the plus side I've used it to net sea run cutthroat and resident Coho in waist deep water. Lol.

After 4 trips the edge started tearing. Nice while it lasted.
