Beautifully crafted story
Well, well, well, what can I say, from a man's point of view, this was pure perfection from an author I have read many times before, all of Kathryn's books and I have read all of them take you on a journey, that tug at the heart strings, but this,OMG,finding out in the end that Loius ,turns out in the end to be Frank at the care home, and is Jenny's son,not brother,I cried a tear at the end, at the graveside,a beautiful book, written with care and attention, look forward to the next one,I cannot wait, this deserves way more than 5 stars,☺☺☺☺☺,this is a book to devour, you will not be disappointed,

A lovely story
A joy to read! This book follows Jenny's story as she drip feeds it to Candice her carer from Wales to Italy and more. I really liked Jenny and Candice was very sweet but a bit naive. By the end I was welling up. I've read and enjoyed all this author's books, I love the way she writes I always feel by the time I've finished her books that the characters are real and I know them personally.

So touching...
Very rarely I cry while reading books, but this story has moved me so much... beautifully written, I stayed up to 1.00 am to finish it, I had to... maybe it speaks to me in a different way... thank you Kathryn Hughes for writing this story.

A brilliantly written story of love and secrets
I loved this book and couldn’t wait to finish it to find out the whole story of Jenny’s life. A definite feel good book that showed such empathy and understanding of people who are in controlling relationships. The frog analogy is excellent.

Wonderful story!
Another great story from Kathryn Hughes. The reminiscences of a 100 year old lady living in a care home about her life in the war years and beyond. The story takes us into the past but runs parallel with the present with the life of the old lady’s carer. The plot has lots of twists and unexpected turns and I just couldn’t put it down wanting to know what happened next. Having read Kathryn Hughes previous books I can’t wait for the next one!
