Transferring Genious!
I was skeptical with these USB transfer cables. I have seen them at local stores, and never really thought to use them. However, since I got Vista, I have been having issues transferring large files over the network between Vista and Windows XP machines. So, I decided to try out the Targus High-Speed File Transfer Cable. I am SO glad I did! This was the greatest solution ever!Originally, I was confused when reading the instructions, as it kept referring to running the EasyShare program from a CD. I had not gotten a CD, nor did the list of items in the package make mention of a CD. I figured it out when I connected the device to my computer, however. The Transfer Cable shows up as a CD-ROM on both machines, and you run the EasyShare program from this CD drive. Frankly, this was incredible! No software to install! It runs right off the USB CD, and did not have any issues! I have had great success between Windows XP Professional SP3, and Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit. Really, can one ask for anything more? The transfer speeds were not incredibly fast. I tried to do a general measurement, and it is not quite transferring at a constant 480 mbps, but then again, nothing really makes full use of USB 2.0 transfer speeds. I did, however, transfer a great deal of files that are in the range of 800 GB to 1 GB, and was VERY satisfied with the speed! The only other things I can think of that would be slight downsides would be the cable is quite thin. I have not seen such a thin USB cable until now. I suppose I would have enjoyed a thicker cable, but the thin one works fine. Also, the larger connector us the size of one of the larger USB thumb drives. Did not have an issue with my PC, however, it might be tight if you have multiple USB ports next to eachother on a laptop or other item with lots of USB devices on them. The transfer program was very nice. Full file browsing (just like using Explorer in Windows) on top, for the Remote machine, and the same for your machine on the bottom half of the screen. Every time I clicked a file, it make a "ding" - but that is not bad. Just a little confusing in the start, thinking an error occurred. As for running the program, I had to run it under the Administrator account in Windows XP. I was able to right-click "Run As ... " as a alternate user with no problem. As for Vista, I was able to run it through the default user with no hassles at all.Overall, if you are a tech person, and might need to transfer files between Windows, and Mac computers, I would recommend keeping one of these handy tools available. It really is worth every penny, if not more! Plus, it comes in a VERY nice carrying case!

Plain vanilla, but it works
This will in fact get your data files from one computer to another. It is intuitive to use - interface looks like dual Windows Explorer. There is no overall progress meter (at least on the unit I bought back in 2012 and just now had a need for), so you don't really know how much longer to expect things to take. Don't stress it by trying to do more than one thing at a time - wait for one folder to finish before copying the next. And don't expect "cancel" to work - I had to go into Task Manager to get a process I started in error to stop. I'd also recommend looking around before deciding which cable to buy - I think the only reason I got this one back in 2012 was that I stumbled across it at a *really* good price.

Adequate, but there is a better option
Essentially this device performs as advertised, allowing you to transfer files and settings between two computers at USB2 speeds. From that standpoint, it's fine and I just have one quibble to point out, and one major drawback. It doesn't display for you how quickly the data transfer is going (the way Windows 7 does for you), and its cable length is much too short. If you can't conveniently bring together (in close proximity) the two computers you're joining, you'll have to buy (perhaps several) powered/booster/repeater-equipped USB2 extension cables. Now for the real reason this product may just not be a wise purchase at all: in 2010, (pretty much) everybody's router is capable of Gigabit ethernet, which translates into a real-world speed of about 111-125 MB/sec. This figure DWARFS the maximum possible 60 MB/sec that USB2 can provide - and therefore immediately renders this cable obsolete, so long as what you want to do is transfer files between computers on your network. This sort of device will be far more relevant at USB3 speeds, when they start making them that way......although it'll still have the short-cable-length problem then, as well.

Lacks features
This product does what it says, but the software that comes with it is buggy and must be open on both machines to transfer files. I was expecting to be able to map the drive of the other computer, as I have a need for a permanent file share between 2 unconnected networks. The transfer of large files is fast, but multiple small files are slow. Also, one end of the cable has a large plug that does not fit into all USB ports.

Here's how it works
I'm using a Mac and a PC. You plug one end into a Mac USB port and the other into a PC USB port. You get a message saying that software is being installed. On your PC, a message appears saying your have to reboot your PC. Do so. On your Mac a CD icon appears. Open it. See the weird two-screens-with-an-arrow icon. Double click that. POW! On both computers a split screen will appear showing (with the PC folder tree structure) the contents of each computer. Click and drag to copy. Mine copied at about 40 mb / second. Nice.

Fast & Easy
I had just gotten a new laptop and did not want to have problems trying to get my information transferred from my old laptop. I read about the Targus ACC96US High-Speed File Transfer Cable on Amazon and thought I would try it. Great results. The Targus was very easy to use. Plug it into your USB, make the selections you want transferred and it does all the work for you. Two thumbs up for the quality and ease of use Targus. Just what I needed. Once again, if you want accurate information, customer opinions, and need it fast, use Amazon.

hard to find
Needed to get my data to a new computer using the (UHG!!) Win 8. It did not provide everything I needed but moved me along way in the transfer. My advise--is you acually work on your computer--and not just play with wizbang stuff--skip Windows 8 and keep your sanity!

Good for the price.
This is a nice device to have if you are migrating large amounts of data during a desk side computer installation. Faster than typical Ethernet and most other options. The product manual is very sparse in it's coverage of the built in file transfer utility and it shows transfer times for individual files not all being moved collectively. These are the only real improvements that could be made.
