Can you actually see exactly where the cut is made?

The ribbon cutter opens in half and you can see the area you will be cutting. You place a portion of the ribbon in the cutter. Once you get the hang of it you will know the exact point where it will cut in the ribbon. It uses heat to cut the ribbon in half. So the heat makes a nice edge that doesn’t fray like when you cut with scissors. Depending on what angle you have the ribbon will be how it’s cut. If you want an angle then you have to put the ribbon in the cutter at the angle you want it at.

Does it work on linen or burlap type ribbon?

Not really. I can barely get it to work on anything that is not plain ribbon like curling ribbon. I've even tried it on grosgrain and it's just not that great. I purchased mine from HSN and blew through all three wires in less than a month and was not really doing that many projects.

Does this product cut through wired ribbon?

For me , it doesn’t cut through anything. Don’t waste your money!

What is the largest width ribbon that can be cut?

I would estimate about 2- 2 1/2 inches wide. The unit itself is fairly small, but you have most of the length of the unit as cutting space. This is for non-wired ribbon. If you need to cut wider ribbon, I'd recommend a hot knife as an alternative.

This device is so easy to use. I imagine width of ribbon may become an issue, fine for 5cm and I imagine a doubled over 10cm ribbon should be OK too but more than that might be tricky. Also only cuts in straight lines BUT for someone that had 50+ ribbon edges to cut and seal this was way better than scissors and a flame. Love it!

This is the second of these devices I have purchased and I think it's great. I do a lot of packaging tied with ribbon and this saves the worry of cutting the ribbon precisely without fraying. The supplier delivered inside a week from the States to Australia, so all in all, really happy with the product and service.
