Does this Ironing Board have ANY plastic pieces at all on the underside? Thanks!

This is a very sturdy ironing board. There is a very thick plastic 'spacer' if you will between the leg bars, and the other plastic piece is the black, circular leg clip (to hold the board together when folded). I think this is the best board out there, and the pieces I described are very solid, thick plastic - almost glass like. Hope this helped you.

Can the iron rest be removed?

It can not be removed. Just fyi, when you fold the board down, the iron rest does not stick out, the folded down legs are a bit longer that the iron rest.

Can you place clothes over the "iron rest" part of the size D ironing board?

You can iron your clothing over the "iron rest". There is no seam or bar. Maybe there used to be but not now. Nice smooth, large surface for ironing. It's great.
