Point Break (DVD)

Not as good as the original but a great movie!
Different enough from the original to not be a copy while having a similar plot.

Incredible
Just wait until you see some of the scenes in this masterpiece. This movie delivers just like the original and even better.

Seeing how the remake holds up to the original.
Overall a good movie. But I will still put the original as number 1. But time change and the new generation may enjoy better than me.

Extreme Sports Extravaganza
If you love extreme sports and action movies you will love this movie!Motor cross, surfing, parachuting, rock climbing, etc. From the desert to the mountains to the ocean the cinematography was beautiful. This is an instant classic on it’s own. One of the best movies in a while.Point Break is a surfing term so it should have had a different title. They really didn’t need to ride the coattails of the original.

I watched it twice wanting to love it! I was left feeling empty and wanting more.
If you intend to replace or continue a cult classic you should take the time to develop it correctly. Let me start with the positives. The scenery and cinematography are beautiful as a matter of fact beautiful is an understatement. The idea of the Ozaki 8 was original and captivating. The plot line has a gripping feel that pulls you in and interests you as to how far they can take it and you want to be connected to it. The problem is that never really happens. The cast is well chosen and placed in their rolls. I couldn't recommend replacing any of them, I just felt they were all under utilized. Lol ok so that wasn't all positive but I am just so disappointed. Now, the overwhelming disappointments. This movie, in my opinion, could have been 3 hours long and kept my attention and frankly it needed to be. They needed to dig deeper into the stories of the characters and connect us to them. None of the characters are developed, meaning there are no story lines of who each one is. They are just thrown in and you are expected to know everything about them. They should have built more on the planning of the Ozaki ordeals and how they chose where to do them. They could have delved much deeper into everything. Nothing flowed, it was a nature of ok they are doing this now they are doing something else is was missing a continuity. I will not spoil a lot of the movie in the rest of the review but some aspects need to be clearly pointed out. The female lead (Teresa Parker as "Samsara") makes almost no appearances and we are expected to just know Johnny is in love with her. There is no connection. You will see this very distinctly through the movie. She makes her appearances and it leaves you wanting to see and know more about her but the substance just isn't there. The connection between she and Johnny is another aspect just thrown in.As for Johnny Utah ( Luke Bracey) the movie starts with a loss of a friend (Jeff) who is supposedly his best friend/brother and we know nothing about how or why they are so close. He is supposedly a multi discipline extreme sports master and we know nothing about it. This is the same for every character. There is no way to build a connection to any of them because they are all just thrown in to the movie. The characters aren't built they are placed.Papas, who is played by a brilliant actor (Ray Winstone) is only there because he was in the original it seems. Extremely under utilized. When Johnny is told he will be paired with Papas the director says he's an "acquired taste". If you have seen the original movie that is a statement you would believe about the original character. In this 2015 version he just seems like another serious cop/fbi agent and his role is extremely minor and under exaggerated. There is no connection built between any of the roles like there were in the original. It felt very thrown together. I wish they would redo this film not worrying about length. This story had the ability to outdo the original by miles and become an all time great movie. It was a wasted opportunity. It grabbed me and let me fall all at the same moment.

HELL YEAH
GREAT action movie.... Not supposed to be the old one ( which I have ), So if you look at it like a new adventure then its a adrenalin super sports movie rush.... Enjoyed.

This story is not like the original, but that's what's great about it.
Some reviews say it's not like the original. It wasn't supposed to be like the original. If they wanted it to be like the original, they would have made it that way. If people are trashing this movie because "it wasn't like the original" or " it's classic remake garbage", you missed the point of the movie and you probably don't deserve to understand. This movie was fantastic. I loved this movie. It makes me want to be better to the environment and it makes me want to give back. Like Samsara said, even if it as little as planting a tree. I'm glad I researched this movie because Edgar Ramirez truly believed in this movie. Not just it being an action film but what point it was trying to get across and that is about taking care of the earth. No, we don't have to become peace loving hippies, but take care of where you live. This is great story and there are multiple great underlying lessons in this movie if you choose to pay attention to them. Some people might bash me and say I don't know what I'm talking about or that if it was a different movie, why did they name it the same. The answer is, who cares. What you should take away from this movie is the message it is trying to get across. Edgar Ramirez said himself “We went to the most beautiful places in the world that exist right now. In 30 or 40 years those places are going to go away. We were shooting in such extreme locations. Some of the glaciers where we shot, will be melted. They are building a lot of gold mines near Angel Falls…so who knows what’s going to be there decades from now?”. Edgar Ramirez really believed in this movie and being in touch with nature and having self-determination and renewing the human spirit in a spiritual way.It might just be a movie to you and that is ok. You may not see any point in it at all other than just another action film and that is ok but you would be missing out on so much more. It's a great movie and if you can find the message in it, you've benefited.

Gelungenes Remake
Also grundsätzlich nichts wirklich "neues". Ramirez (Das Bourne Ultimatum, 8 Blickwinkel) und Bracey (G.I. Joe - Die Abrechnung, The Best of Me) harmonieren in meinen Augen sehr gut zusammen.
