Bizarre London: Discover the Capital's Secrets & Surprises

This book has so much detail it is worth reading twice over as there is so much to absorb! I only wish it had illustrations to add to the pleasure. I can highly recommend it.

This was atypical of those books which are prevalent around Christmas time. It contains lots of little snippets of interest, and it's very unlikely a reader would not find something they didn't know and which was of interest. At times it veers into list territory, which is not so helpful, and even on topics of interest, there isn't much depth. So, interesting, but there are better guides out there - but maybe dip and out of this to pique interest, then go elsewhere for the detail.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, loads of things I never knew, funny at times and shows how wonderfully unique London and Londoners are!

Some interesting snippets. More a book to dip into, rather than read cover to cover. But fun nonetheless.Perhaps one for the downstairs loo.

I lived half an hours train travel from the inner city of London for many years and some of my family lived and worked most of their lives in the heart of it so I was intrigued by this book. We all learnt something new or had memories jogged which sparked a few interesting stories. Had there been more detailed information, without it becoming boring statistics, on each entry instead of the few enticing lines this would have got 5 Stars. Over all enjoyable interesting reading that could have been so much more. Suitable for tourists who only want outlines of interesting places rather than in depth.

I love London. My daughter lives 40 mins out in Hertfordshire and everytime I visit we go to London. Exploring together. This book was a treasure to have. Read it with my iPad alongside me and looked at the places it mentioned. We know have enough new places to explore through the coming year.Easy to read, brief explanations and informative.Would recommend this to people who want to go a little off the beaten tourist track.

Excellently written, being informative and entertaining in equal measure. The author has a light style that makes the content very accessible and, at times, uses a wry sense of humour in his writing that I personally found very appealing. A book that you can easily dip into and containing a vast amount of information ranging from obscure facts to a wonderful potted history of sewers, which was delightfully imparted for such a grubby subject. Highly recommended.

Very interesting read

This book would have been 10 times better if it had had pictures that went with the stories. These would be specially useful for those of us who have never visited London but are interested in doing so. I would still recommend this book because it is well written, although sometimes it could benefit of longer explanations.

Je croyais connaître très bien Londres mais ce livre m’a appris beaucoup de choses intéressantes et amusantes. J’ai eu du plaisir à le lite.
