Easy and fun to pick up and play.
I spent a year or two trying to learn the guitar. I gave up in frustration. A few years later I ran across this thing. After a month I'm better at playing it than I ever was at the guitar: I have to attribute this to the fact that this is so easy and fun to just pick up and play with for a few minutes, while the guitar felt like a chore. This instrument is inexpensive, well-built, rugged, sounds lovely, and comes with a travel case. Well-worth the price.

Serious design flaw!
There needs to be a piece of leather or something where the strings come up over the tonewood.Mine cracked because of the pressure. The instrument was NEVER abused!Yeah, they'll tell you how to "fix" it — fill the crack with glue, which is UGLY!Apparently it's a common issue.A small piece of leather would easily solve the problem.I won't buy again unless there's a change!I am NOT happy!

More musical than regular sticks
The promise was tantalizing. A stick you could strum, and, this is the truly amazing part, I wouldn't be able to make a wrong note. On the latter, I really felt the expectations were a bit high for a company that knew me so little (I hadn't actually met the company, so I wrote this off as polite flattery). And as my previous experiences with strumming regular sticks had ended in blisters and an infection on one of my knuckles, I thought I would approach this one with caution. But this was no ordinary stick, it was a slim, portable, stringed instrument of the dulcimer persuasion. With diatonic fretting, I could truly be free to be the musical simpleton that I am.This stick came with a custom case and (shipped separately to avoid damage in shipping I found out later) an instructional booklet and CD. This is a very good thing, as regular sticks have no documentation at all.Well as it turns out, I could make a wrong note. As my fingers made their way down the neck, like a nervous teenage boy on his first date, praying to whatever supreme being who's the right one, that there's no umpire at third base, the notes started sounding off. Looking down i saw that the neck had a particular twist that you normally only find on fashion models and the women who don't find me charming at bars, and preferably not on stringed instruments.I'm going to assume that I must have gotten a defective product, but as I'm reviewing the one I received, I must give it two stars. In the end I chose to send back the strummable stick and spend an extra $40 and purchase the Roosebeck Wildwood Dulcimer, which is the non-massage version of a happy ending.

easy to play
arrived on time and was well packaged to protect the product. I have some experience with guitars, banjos and mandolins so it was fairly easy for me. The neck is narrow and I consider the frets to be a little more raised than found on other instruments. You soon see that very little pressure is needed at the fret. Heavy pressure results in some sound distortion, however this can be useful at times.
