I REALLY like it... maybe I even love it, too - A very adorable, heartstring-pulling book.
I came across a picture from this book in a weekly web-zine, and then found myself searching for the book itself based on the illustrations which are by the incomparable Maurice Sendak. Ruth Krauss wrote The Carrot Seed, and this is similarly charming. The book describes and explains things that are good to know when you are a kid -- things like a screaming song, in case you need to scream; or not to be a plant, because someone might think you were a weed and pull you up by the roots. It's all very logical, if you simply think like you are six or seven years old!Krauss' writing is hilariously funny in some places, poignant in others, clever in surprising ways, and wise in the way that children are, even unintentionally. In the same way that Ruth Krauss had a real sense for kids' minds, Maurice Sendak could render their bodies and small countenances, while exposing the machinations of even the most devious of minds, better than just about any other illustrator one can name. Sendak's kids are SUBLIME. They are kids with whom you want to play - or if you can resist that impulse, you at the very least just have to watch them. They are the most irresistible kids drawn, at least to me...This is a great book for children or for parents & grandparents to read to kids or laugh at on their own. I think it is also highly suitable for former children who find themselves feeling nostalgia for the days when one knew it was good to wear a sad face when meeting a crocodile.

Why with the sticker on the cover?
This books is magical. Why the heck did they put a sticker on the dust jacket? There is no way to remove it without damaging the book 🤦♀️
