Good recorder, decent mic, interface is good but takes a little practice
The sound quality of the recorder is extremely accurate, very good quality and an excellent value and it will serve the needs of everybody and anybody. The Lav mic which is included with the recorder is OK, but I think there are better mics out there (for the money), while this mic will serve the needs of many, it's acceptable for the price but you can do better if you're willing to spend the money, and if your needs are demanding. The user interface is good, but just a bit complicated, while the directions are good, these directions are unique, and you may have a couple false starts when you start to use this. Once you understand what to do and what not to do, you will be pleased with the interface, and will get the outstanding results that people have come to expect out of zoom products.

Use it for weddings
I use this for wedding videography, it's a great little recorder that gets the job done. love the 32bit float and the option to fix the audio further in post. would refer this to others and highly recommend for wedding usage. Microphone isn't the best but the recorder is compact and light. upgrade your microphone and everything is amazing.

Works, but needs improvement
I bought this recorder to record audio for videos with real estate agents. First, the battery cover is very cheaply made. I broke it the very first time I tried to open it. I now have to put tape on it to hold it on and that happened IMMEDIATELY after I unboxed it. Second, the mic that comes with it is very bad. I am using a tascam mic and it is much better. Third, its behavior can be strange and can make you feel nervous about whether it's working correctly or not. For instance, sometimes when I try to stop the recording, the lights will not change so it seems like it's not stopping. Even turning the power to "off" still won't turn it off and doesn't seem to stop recording. You just have to wait a while until it finally powers off. I don't know if this is normal behavior or not but it is unsettling, especially when you're with a client and are trying to stop and start a new recording and it won't stop. But, it has never failed. I haven't lost any recordings and it have been fine. It's just unnerving to not know what it's doing when it become unresponsive.

Cannot be trusted for any serious production (1-year review)
I have 3 of these Zoom F2 recorders that I have used over the past year, on commercials, short films, video, interviews, YouTube etc. Every single Zoom F2 has had issues with recording audio properly at some point - I have lost audio on every one of these at various points. Now I'm throwing them in the drawer forever and writing this review to warn others. I have worked with these recorders using a variety of batteries and at least 3 different kinds of SD cards. The recorders are easy to operate, however sometimes the indicator lights will say it's all good, but the recorder won't record - and you'll only find out once you plug into your SD card reader. I have 2 of the old version and 1 of the new version of the F2, tested both with new and old firmware, two of them had recording issues, one would just stop working at times. The mic that comes with it is decent, but the windscreen falls off easily. Battery life is good, 32-bit float is great to have, but NONE OF THIS MATTERS if the recorder cannot be trusted in the field to do its job. I wouldn't even trust these for low-end production or even backup audio, as there are better and equally priced alternatives out there.

Great 32bit float
After 29 years of production was really hard to give up being able to monitor while recording...I use basically as a nagra so un-nerving to hit record and walk away...of course I record a scratch track on camera side but unusable for edit so have to really trust this little guy. Mic that comes with...a little big and meh...ok sound...but I would buy more of these without hesitation....small trick after years of clapboards or smart slates, just ingest all files, use scratch track and this 32bit float and view waveform....then just align visually and BOOM synced.

Perfect replacement for the Tascam DR-10
I've been a fan of the Tascam DR-10 for years. The Zoom F2 has just replaced it. Here's why: I've been burned too many times using wireless lav mics on shoots. When I found the DR-10, it just made sense. However, the only way to monitor the DR-10 for audio levels was through the headphone jack. So, unless you wanted to run an 1/8" cable from the pack, you just had to trust the levels were good. The F2 doesn't really need to monitoring, since it records in 32-float, but you can monitor it through the bluetooth connection if you need to. You can also start and stop recording remotely through the bluetooth connection. Convenient, and unlike the Tentaclesync pack, it doesn't disable the 1/8" out when recording. So you could still use a wireless pack in addition to this as well. I use two of these for interviews. One goes on the subject as a lav and the other I connect to a Deity D3 Pro for a shotgun mic. I also run a 1/8" out from the shotgun pack into my camera for a backfeed. My only con for this recorder is that the supplied mic is only so-so. It will get the job done, but replacing it with a Countryman or Sanken or even one of the Deity lav mics will make this unit that much better.

Build quality seems cheap
Zoom makes great products; however, the build quality on this product feels cheap. The plastic door to the battery is extremely thin and difficult to open. I feel like it's going to snap when I try to open it. The door to the micro SD card also feels cheap, and removing the SD card is difficult. I wish the software offered more features. Zoom makes great products and I'm sure they'll make improvements on future versions. I'll wait until the next version comes out before I consider purchasing again.

Good quality audio for the price
Happy with the purchase. Very clean audio and gives confidence nowing we will have usable audio. Built qaulity cannot be blamed for the price. Cover for memmory card slot may not survive long if you are not really carefull.

Ease of use
This is a great product that is so easy to use and reliably gets clean audio. In situations where you can't reasonably monitor audio, this is the best option you have to get great audio. Only little complaint, it would have benefitted extremely from a battery indicator. Just having a single light isn't enough to accurately know how much battery is left before recording. I feel that was an unfortunate shortcoming on an otherwise wonderful product.

EXCELLENT AND SIMPLE
I own a Zoom F2 and a Tascam DR-10L. Both recorders are excellent and have there stand out features. What I like most about the Zoom F2 is how simple it is to use. Straight out of the box you're basically up and running. The controls on the front of the unit all make sense, are easy to use, and the recording quality is excellent. This is the unit I attach to guests of our podcast because it requires the least monitoring or adjustment.
