The Epic of Kings: Shahnameh

Interesting but a little repetitive
This an interesting translation of Ferdowsi's epic of the legendary Shas and Kings of Iran. For the most part the translation is good but there are some strange words that I have never seen in English. It is somewhatrepetitive as the different Shas fight huge battles spilling lakes of blood and mighty warriors defeating the enemies of Iran. Also the Shas dispense huge amounts of treasure but there is no explanation of whence it comes. Do not expect a Game of Thrones as the plots are much simpler, but I can understand the pride Iranians have in the work. A map of the countries mentioned would have been useful and a glossary of some of the terms

A simplifies version of the famous Persian epic
This was the only version in English I could find of Ferdowsi's famous work that I wanted to read before going on an extended visit to Iran, but I found it rather simplified with no attempt to bring out the poetic basis of the original.
