I'm not sure how I came across it yet after ordering it and mentioning it to my dad while staying at my parent's place, he went downstairs in the basement and brought up the book so I was able to start reading it before having received my copy. Unlike so many books that focus only on lofty theology or vague encouragement, Ortlund gets very practical. The book is all about real steps for drawing near to Christ—not in a checklist or self-help way, but in the way Scripture actually calls us to. What makes this book so powerful is how it confronts the subtle lie we often believe: that we must somehow be “good enough” before approaching Jesus, that we must first clean ourselves up in order to have a relationship with Him. Ortlund exposes this as nothing more than works righteousness. Instead, he shows how true spiritual change comes not from striving harder, but from pressing deeper into Christ’s heart and resting in His grace. Ortlund takes you through what real sanctification looks like—not performance, not moralism, but dependence. I have read this as the “sequel” to Gentle and Lowly, but after reading, have found myself longing again to look at Jesus presented in his “prequel.” This book as well as Gentle and Lowly are foundational for true Christianity as presented by scripture

Outstanding Resource for Becoming Like Christ
I’ve read probably a couple dozen books on sanctification and Christian discipleship. This is at the very top of my go-to list of books to give to Christians who want to understand the theology and calling of Christian sanctification. Ortlund especially focuses on the Lord Jesus being at the center of the process and the goal of our becoming more like the Lord Jesus!

Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2
I have been earnestly praying Romans 12:2 and seemed discouraged that God had not made dramatic changes in me. This book has opened my eyes to the fact that my role is not passive but active. I make the choice to focus on Jesus and what He has accomplished. I actively seek the Holy Spirit to guide me in this process so that I can experience the joy of really knowing Jesus!

Pertty good.
Found it helpful but sometimes the chapters seem disjointed. Overall, it is helpful in a "back to basics" way. Much better than the sentimentality and limp-wristedness of one of his other books.

Jesus Loves Me; In This I Grow
In order to grow, we need to see who the real Jesus is (chap. 1), collapsing into his arms and continuing to do so all our lives long (chap. 2) as those united to him (chap. 3), drinking down his undeserved love (chap. 4) and full legal exoneration on the basis of his own finished work (chap. 5), being therefore freed up to walk in the light (chap. 6) and receive the anguish of this life as the gentle hand of God to help us rather than to punish us (chap. 7), seeing the love of Christ by inhaling the Bible and returning our love to him in exhaled prayer (chap. 8), and actually experiencing the love of heaven through the indwelling Spirit (chap. 9). This is a book with one point: Be astonished at the gracious heart of Jesus Christ, proven in his atoning work in the past and his endless intercession in the present. Receive his unutterable love for sinners and sufferers. Stop resisting. Let him draw near to you. Gaze upon him.

Love this book, deep and thoughtful. Encouraging in my faith.
Makes me wrestle with teachings and growth philosophies that I have never thought about or needing reminding about and I end up with a greater view of Jesus for having read it both in print and listening to on audiobook. Great to have the audiobook read aloud by the very author of the book. Gives it more heart.
