Great for a 5 year old's gift!
We purchased this for my 3 & 4 year old at Christmas and they loved it. I ended up getting it for a birthday party gift for a 5 year old. Fun rainy day activity! It's a bit messy but the kids enjoyed it!

Great for kids who like dinosaurs and digging!
I bought this for an Easter basket gift for my five year old. It was a perfect fit for what he's interested in, and I've been more interested in experience-based toys, especially with staying at home more than usual and increased screentime spillover from 2020. He's a little younger than the recommended ages, so I'm planning on more supervision and help than I think 7 year olds and older would need. I'll try to update when we actually use this to describe the actual process and the fossils, but everything looks good so far.

Discover your own fossils
Was quite pleased with this. Out the box, it looks like a large rock. Once you start chipping away the sand, fossils begin to show up. You do have to be careful with some of the fossils. A few of the fossils are very fragile and break easily when chipping away.

Fun and esucational
This was purchased for a very smart sticks year old boy. He had lots of fun doing it and it was easy for him to do on his own. It was an adventure without leaving the house and also took him a couple hours to complete. Will definitely be purchasing more for him to do.

Great time killer
Bought this for my nephew for Christmas. He loved it! Spent a good couple of hours digging away for the fossils. I would certainly recommend if you want some peace and quiet in the house! :)

Perfect For Kids!
Okay, I got this for me and my partner, and we are in our twenties. But we love dinosaurs, and a set like this is perfect for any ages, really - so long as you're into your excavating. For kids into this kind of thing, it's really an awesome thing to go for; and a really thoughtful gift. The fossil rock itself has some nice details with raised impressions of old creatures and fossils, and is hard enough that you really have to put some work into it, which is nice. This feels like a challenge that could take a while; not something that will fall apart easily and present no real entertainment. The tools you get with it are nice (a brush, magnifying glass, hammer and chisel) and work well - we definitely used them a lot. But it's a shame you only get one of each, so unless you have other implements, this will be a solo venture. I've had a set like this before which came with a multipack of brushes and chisels. But you can probably find something around the house to help you.The eight fossils were pretty evenly distributed, and all look great! All supposedly real, too, which is even cooler. They range in size and impressiveness, but it's fun to take each and every one out carefully. The little fact file you get with this set is a really nice touch. It's messy, of course. If you have kids who want to play with this, I thoroughly recommend supervision, because rock and sludge (if you add water which does help) may well get everywhere otherwise. That being said, it's a really nice thing. And me and my partner loved getting to grips with it!

Fun and educational, 100% recommended.
This is a lot of fun. You have real fossils hidden away inside the plaster block and you have to carefully dig through to find them and get them out. They are easily identifiable and the booklet included gives some information on each of them which is great.Prepare for this to be a little messy, however. Make sure you cover your surface with a table cloth or newspapers so you can tidy up quickly and easily when you're done (the plaster dust gets everywhere otherwise). The kit is well put together and comes with the tools you'll need to get digging and it makes for a really, really fun activity with some educational aspects to it. My only issue is the fact that the fossils are so very fragile. I found a couple I accidentally chipped despite using the tools carefully and one of them had a small part on the side just crumble away (i was only using the brush on that one!).For the price, however, it is a really worth while activity. It will take an hour or two to get everything out and it is super interesting to find out information about each of the fossils you find in the plaster. afterwards, you literally own specimens that are millions of years old.

Some fossils are very fragile
This is a brilliant kit especially for dinosaur fans and fossil enthusiasts, even people uninterested in those things though will have fun with this.We really enjoyed excavating with the whole family, it’ll have to be in turns though as you’ll only get the one set of tools. This did drive my youngest a little crazy as she desperately wanted to keep going. As for the fossils, we loved the teeth and they have come out really well after being washed. Unfortunately one of the largest (trilobite) and also the shark vertebra, broke apart very easily. So please be beware that if you get this kit, go careful with those two.Overall though, the kit is a good price and well worth it for all of the fun and wonderful fossils leftover. It was an easy clean up afterwards, sweep and a wet cloth will do it.Makes for a great present!

Expensive compared to other similar kits
Two kids had fun with this for about an hour. Be aware- it's messier than other kits due to the very soft and dusty plaster stuff used. I'd say it's suitable for younger kids with supervision as its quick because it's soft. We've done a lot of these kind of kits as my son is obsessed with fossils and I'd say that for the size and amount of fossils, it's very overpriced at £20. For comparison, I also bought a fossil kit at a well known German supermarket in the UK for £6 which is almost exact. We found 8 fossils, one of which crumbled whilst I was washing it which was disappointing. Bit scared to touch it now (bottom right of the photo) Children liked it but I didn't like the mess or price.
