It looks a bit short and there are no pictures with bottles in it- does it hold the taller 8oz bottles or only the short ones?

It can definitely hold the 8oz bottles. It looks short in the pictures but isn't in person. I thought the same thing. I love mine.

What height of microwave is required for this product?

The steamer measures 7 inches from counter top to top of steamer. It fits perfectly in our. 8 3/4" tall microwave.

Can I use the sterilizer rather than hand washing the bottles every time?

I tried it once just to see. The formula/milk leaves an oily film on nipples and bottles, so technically they would be sterilized (?) but still kind of dirty (?). I find its best to wash the bottles, nipples and everything and then put it into the sterilizer. I know when you're juggling babies and other things, washing and sterilizing seems like a chore, but it just seems safer doing the washing and sterilizing.

Can this be used on dr Browns glass bottles?

Yes it can. I bought it for my daughter and she used Dr. Brown glass bottles.
