Doom - Xbox One

run and gun? rip and tear!
why add another rave review for the 2016 "Doom"? because it deserves every positive review it gets.as a player back in the '90s of the original game, it's delightful to see the style, humor and care applied to this updated reimagining. "doom soldier" is given a personality -- in the way he smashes up stuff without regard for dr. hayden's instructions, fistbumps one of the collectible mannekins, punches the weapon drones, and performs hilarious "glory kills." we also get some backstory -- he begins the game locked in a sarcophagus, worshipped by the unwilling, too malign to be given life. but he still has the scampering, clambering, fast gunning capabilities of the original game (now with extreme jumping added, a nod to the kinetics of "Quake"). the character of "dr. hayden" is also chilling, and this game coins the most stinging critique of technological progress yet ... "Opening Hell -- for a brighter tomorrow."each map is a challenging three dimensional problem (the disconnected areas and levels of the player's available map do not reveal much) and some secret areas are very hard to discover. that said, you can replay all finished levels and "rune" challenges with the level of weapons and abilities achieved so far -- for example, once you obtain the BFG late in the game, you replay the first level with it! i enjoyed going back through maps to collect praetor, weapon and rune upgrades that i had missed the first time around.this game disparages the multiplayer (and profit driven) design of many "triple A" games issued today; the focus is on a solo player facing highly capable and very aggressive NPCs in spatially challenging map designs. it also pays visual respect to both "doom 3" and especially "dead space" (in the "lazarus facility" episode with its macabre medical labs, wall draping tumorous muck, candlelight illumination, and malignly powerful alien artifact).in an era where the creep-a-mousey combat tactics of "Metro Exodus" or "GR: Wildlands" or "Dishonored 2" are almost the norm, it's refreshing and highly entertaining to play a game that honors the kinetic, frenetic and manic style of gaming that first made speedrunning a gamer fad.

A Little Nostalgia
Doom was one of the first games I ever played back in the early 90's. I didn't care that the characters didn't talk, the graphics weren't that good (at least not up to par with today's standards) you couldn't look up or down or even aim your gun. Anyways the new Doom while it is a totally different game still has some of that old Doom feel to it. I've played several hours of the campaign so far and I've absolutely love it. There was one time that I did play about 20 minutes worth of combat to only kill all of the enemies (I thought the game autosaved after I cleared the area) I had to pick up health and ammo and then after about a minute 2 of the toughest enemies spawned and killed me within a matter of seconds, so I was a little mad when I had to start a good ways back in the level. But I'm not going to let that one bad thing cause me to leave a bad review. As far as the multilayer goes it's a lot different than your other First Person Shooters, (Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo) it reminds me of a combination between Unreal Tournament and Halo. Well I think that's enough talking. Go get this game! (It's $20 right now 6-16-17)

Frustrating
Okay game itself is good quality but....1. Load timesThe load times on this game sickeningI bought a brand new Xbox one for this game an still have to wait for the next level. Maybe it’s just game design but still I would like seamless leveling2. Gameplay weaponsThe weapons in this game are useless and upgrades aren’t much help. Jeez ID the shotgun in the game can’t hurt a fly3. Gameplay upgradesOkay I understand the whole risk vs reward thing but don’t base the whole game based on it. Risk vs reward is only fun when facing average enemies not the game bosses.4. Finally the elephant ( or should I say cyber demon). in the room Game bossesOkay yes game bosses should have some challenges but they should be defeatable at some point. I maybe not the best player in the world but a game boss should not be so tough as to impede me from enjoying the rest of the game and yes it’s the cyberdemon.Easy setting means easy not pissoff player.Oh and I have already heard the line play better and I say make easy easy kind a like the K.I.S.S. Principle

when hell is unleashed on Mars....grab a shotgun and a chainsaw cause man you are going to need it
I bought this game from Amazon and this game was on top of game to play this year and man do I freaking love it. The storyline is straight forward and simple to follow. You are super soldier who is caught up in the storm of hell and mars is the hot zone of satans power nuff said. gameplay is fast pace similar to the classic FPS shooters !!! as this game progress you will be able to collect all sorts of weapons to blow those demons sky high and send them back to hell. Now the graphics in this game is just jaw dropping a little cartoonish in some parts but even that just captures that classic doom feel !!! my favorite part of this game is just overall how fun it is but let me tell you when that hard metal starts amping up and the those demons are tripping one another clawing they're way to get to you.....man the intensity is real ! the game developers really want you too feel like a complete bad out of hell and after when you are done you actually feel like you are this character who is just doing what he is meant to do. if you are looking for something to play and just really want to have fun check this game out cause its worth every penny to be honest.

Heart pounding action.
Fun game with great graphics and hyper-fast action. No standing still in this game. Nice background music. Most games I can complete in the average skill setting but I had to lower it to the "don't hurt me" setting for the few of the battles, and still got killed a lot. Of course, I'm not exactly a superstar gamer, just an old retired guy with a lot of time. Equipment upgrades make you stronger as the games goes on, but the demons and monsters get stronger too. Also, a lot of climbing and jumping that has to be done just right or you will die. Jump locations are hard to find at first but become easier once you learn to look for the signs.

Great game
Absolutely love the game. Great graphics, interesting story. Love the fact that you can replay the campaign mission by mission to find the secrets and collectibles and you keep all your gear from the completed campaign.

Game which changes your mood
Spent couple of hours on playing this game and it doesn't meet expectations. I thought this would be similar to god of war but it is not. Now, I am not playing this game as I felt bored with the locations and creatures. However, may resume playing as I had spend money on this ;-)
