Coolest and powerful full metal stirling engine
The media could not be loaded. This engine is strong, all metal, and strong power and rpms.Pros. Full metal construction, good rpms, can handle higher temps, beautiful design, easy to modify, and make additionsCons. No dynamo/generator, no leds, wooden base and stand offs is too light to handle the higher rpms and higher heats can cause the wood base to burn or catch fire.I love this engine and after running it for a month i came across its similar counterpart which i was lucky enough to gain the opportunity test and compare them and was impressed by the counterparts speed, dynamo, and leds. Then i was upset that this engine does not come with dynamo/generator, and leds and i began planning to modify this engine to run 6 strip led on a USB cable and it worked! I did my best to copy the counterparts mechanical pulley drive system to transfer the power motion to the mini dynamo i mounted.I was impressed that this engine is capable of running the 6 leds and i modified the base to be wider and practical. These mods allow the engine for versatile heat sources : solar, flame, conductive, stove top and etc. Its also alot more stable and does not vibrate off the table and can power leds on a usb cable port attached to a mini dynamo. This engine is awesome and this company should really invest in selling one with a dynamo and usb port.Im sure sunny tech could design a better mech drive system than my crude plastic pulley and rubber band drive system. Id love to see this engine continue the full metal construction with dynamo and leds and maybe usb too

Powerfull
For a stirling engine it is quite strong works great not as polished as they claim but it is still very very nice.

Freaking Awesome!
I think that all 500 people in my building have stopped by my office just to see this thing. It is so much fun and works perfectly. Maybe one of the coolest purchases I’ve ever made.

Packaged poorly!!
Great looking engine. Just poorly packaged! You think you spent $100 bucks that they would package it better, so not even UPS or whatever carrier can't destroy it!!!

good quality, though a bit noisy (but can be silenced)
Qualitywise, the Stirling engine is great. The only potential problem could be the crank pin on the connecting rod which appears to be made of copper, hence could wear out earlier than other parts made of stainless steel.Running it the first time turned out to be rather noisy. Application of a Teflon oil (sparsely!! -- is no real oil, but Teflon nanoparticle emulsion with solvent evaporating, leaving a thin Teflon film on the metal) removes any squeaking. When running at 3000 rpm, you can hear the machine anyway ... as you should with any piston engine running at that speed. You can also use a wax tealight to run it at lower rpm as compared to the C2H5OH burning from the wick of the bottle (preserving the mechanics). Do not get it too close, though, or you have to clean the outside surface of the cylinder frequently from sod (use the C2H5OH you got for the wick bottle). Another improvement is to turn the blades of the fan in opposite inclination so that the air is blown *onto* the cooling cylinder sticking out on top of the platform. This significantly decreases its temperature (run the thing and touch the cylinder after ca. 20 min in both fan configurations, and you'll see), and hence increase the rpm and efficiency of the Stirling engine. All in all, a nice gadget to teach kids some thermodynamics with fun, but not an item to show off on your desk (not my thing anyway) as it is too noisy when running at full speed.
