Would this be suitable to mount a small to medium sized canvas to a clean painted wall?

I’m sorry I don’t know. It may work but I fear it would damage the canvas and the wall when you removed it. There are many other ways or easily hang canvas maybe look into something else. If you don’t want to drill the wall or knock a nail into it, I have seen some stick up hooks advertised that are removable without trace so it says that maybe a better option? Sorry can’t help further
