Good Report...but an intense study!
This is full of great information, but it is a very intense study! Not for the weak reader, or a light study.

Most Credible Book on EMP Threat
This report was written for Congress by a committee of experts on electromagnetic pulse phenomena. It explains the danger of EMP in a way that is readily understandable to intelligent readers with limited technical knowledge. It is particularly effective in pointing out the interdependencies of the infrastructures that make our lives possible.Still, the report misses some things. The threat of nuclear weapons in orbit, perhaps posing as communications satellites, is not discussed. Nor are the geopolitical threats posed to world order by the fact that a superpower such as the United States can be destroyed by a single nuclear weapon. The book was written in 2008, and so is becoming dated. The threat of grid failure to nuclear power plants, resulting in radioactive fallout, was highlighted by the Fukushima disaster, but is dismissed in this report. Also, there have been advances in technologies for protecting the grid, such as those outlined in Peter Vincent Pry's book Apocalypse Unknown.

Yes it's free but...
If you're are looking at this you likely know it is free and public record but I wanted a bound hard copy and instead of printing out 200 pages or going g to UPS and paying $80 I payed $8 and am very happy with this purchase. Buy one for you and one for a friend. Get the information out

Not much use...
I found the commission report worthless in formulation of protective strategies. I want to know how to protect my vehicles, my electrical appliances, and my small off-grid power system. That means knowledge of how EMP couples into cables and knowledge of the voltage spikes applied to electronic devices. Alas, no such data. Just the recommendation that further study is required. I guess I'll have to take a certificate in EMC to learn what I need to know.

A good study....NOT a survival manual.
This is NOT a "survival manual". It is a threat assesment. The report is available in its entirety online (PDF format), for FREE--it's a public document. Why anyone would pay for this report is beyond my comprehension. This is not meant to be a comprehensive instruction manual for surviving an EMP attack. This report issued it's findings the same week as the 9/11 Commission Report was published and this report received essentially zero news coverage. Politicians don't talk about it because it doesn't buy them votes talking about strengthening our electrical grid and making expensive stockpile purchases of essential equipment (large capacitors, backup generation capabilities and shielded grid control systems) to prevent massive damage to the grid and repair damaged infrastructure in the event of an EMP event.

If you want a pretty good review about what to expect
OK, this report is available online for free. Having said that, the guy who gave it a one star is failing to recognize the fact that this demonstrates that congress (Dem OR Rep), or president (if you think that a Rep president would do something, I assume that you believe in Santa, too) doesn't care about saving you and me from this nightmare. If you want a pretty good review about what to expect, read "One Second After".
