A respectful parenting guidebook from the mega-bestselling How To Talk series that applies trusted and effective communication strategies, positive discipline tools, and parent-child communication skills to the toughest challenges of raising children. For forty years, readers have turned to Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish’s How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk , the book The Boston Globe called, “the parenting Bible,” for a respectful and practical approach to communication with children and mindful parenting. Expanding upon this work, Adele’s daughter, Joanna Faber, along with Julie King, coauthored the bestselling book, How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen . Now, Faber and King have tailored How to Talk’s tried and trusted communication strategies to some of the most challenging childhood moments. From tantrums, whining, meltdowns, and defiance to technology, screen time limits, and digital dilemmas to talking to kids about tough topics, How to Talk When Kids Won’t Listen offers concrete strategies for these and many more difficult situations. Part One introduces readers to the How to Talk “toolbox,” with whimsical cartoons demonstrating the basic communication skills and family communication strategies that will transform readers’ relationships with children in their lives. In Part Two, Joanna and Julie answer specific questions and share relatable stories, offering practical parenting tools for addressing issues such as homework hassles, sibling battles and sibling rivalry, power struggles, alternatives to punishment, and more through collaborative problem-solving and conflict resolution. Readers can turn directly to any topic of interest and find the help they need, with handy “reminder pages.” Through the combination of lively stories from real parents and teachers, humorous illustrations, and entertaining exercises, How to Talk When Kids Won’t Listen offers real, positive parenting solutions to struggles familiar to every parent, grandparent, teacher, and anyone else who lives or works with children and wants to strengthen family relationships, build kids’ listening skills, and support emotional regulation. Review: Kids be crazy!! - This book should come with a cape, because it turns everyday parents into communication superheroes. How to Talk When Kids Won’t Listen taught me how to survive whining, referee sibling battles, and still have energy left to smile about it. It’s less “self-help” and more “parenting cheat code.” Honestly, it deserves a standing ovation… but I’ll settle for five quiet minutes alone to read another chapter. 📚😅 Review: a different perspective and a new beginning - Really enjoyed this parenting book. It gave me a perspective I wouldn’t have considered when I talk to my kids. I have young kids under 3 but I knew there was a better way to connect with them and discipline in a learning way. Highly recommend this book to any parent. There were many applicable ways to apply the concept for parents of all ages not just little kids.

Saved me
I read the authors first book about how fro so kids will listen! This book was helpful for me as we recently adopted two children and they needed special attention. One of the most helpful things we started implementing is the name calling strategy which showed us a different way to approach parenting with lots of helpful visual guides and examples

Another great book by the authors
Great book with many helpful examples. I love the situational breakdowns ... they make this book very useful as a quick reference guide in the future. In the heat of the moment, I think we, as parents, sometimes forget how to best respond to our kids, but the content of this book provides much inspiration for how to do better.

Practical and Full of Real-Life Examples
How to Talk When Kids Won’t Listen has been such a helpful resource during challenging days with my toddlers. The real-life examples throughout the book are so relatable and provide practical ways to handle everyday struggles. I especially appreciated the comic strips, which make the techniques easy to understand and remember. From daily hassles such as fighting, whining, defiance, bad attitudes, anxiety, fear, worry, conflict, bathroom battles… this book seriously covers it all! While this book is likely useful for many parenting stages, it has been an incredible appendix for me during the toddler years. I can flip to the issue I am dealing with and the advice it offers is so helpful. It offers realistic strategies that have made tough moments more manageable and improved communication with my little ones. Highly recommend to any parent looking for guidance and encouragement in their parenting!

Good read for parents that are on the edge.
This book gives some really good insights on perspectives of children when inside the bubble of not listening due to mental shut down. Gave me some key ideas on how to focus my own thoughts to better respond and prepare for dealing with them appropriately and respectfully.
