Ease of use
Product was as described and what I expected. Easy to use. The metal mesh is lightweight but hopefully enough of a deterrent to encourage the critters to go find an easier meal elsewhere.

Sizing
These are to protect the main roots of the root ball of plants or the bulb itself. It's easy to use. I suggest using the 2-gallon size for smaller plants that are not going to outgrow the basket. Landscape plants like Lavender or Euonymus or even native Tagetes shrubs would be too large for these. These can be more useful for shallow roots and smaller plants like herbs and annuals. They do tend to rust after being underground for so long they would be difficult to reuse. For landscape plants look at getting larger size options or make your own fitting for the plant's spread.

Effective solution against gophers
These arrived on time, in great condition. Not a perfect solution to gophers, but gives your plants a fighting chance. This is my third batch of these baskets - every time I plant I use these

Quick and easy to use
I was very pleased with this item. I live out in the country where rodents can be a problem. I bought this item in two sizes to match the pot size of my pre-planted peonies from the nursery. (If you don't know what size to buy, measure the diameter of your nursery pot and then check online to get the corresponding gallon size). So easy to use! You just roll them up over the root ball like a pair of socks. Too early to know for sure whether they will be effective, but the metal mesh is tightly woven so I think they will work.

Rodent Protection
These root cages work well. The only grip I have is that they are sized small. This is not a big deal if you know ahead of time. The two gallon size is good for one gallon plants. The one gallon size being too small, requires you to mangle the root ball to get it in the cage.

My defense against voles!
Got disgusted with voles making my plants disappear and I (with some skepticism) bought these wire mesh guards. They worked like a charm. No more disappearing plants and the roots of the plant have no problem growing outside of the wire mesh. I am one happy gardener!

good for melons
I didn't use them to plant things in them. I used them to bag watermelons so the rats wouldn't eat them. I grew some of those little sugar baby personal sized watermelons and they worked fine. none of them got eaten by small woodland creatures. I've had rats and other varmints steal fruits and veggies from the garden. I didn't lose any watermelons though. Just use some safety wire to tie the top of the basket around the stem

Fingers crossed
Naughty voles nibbled the roots of a swath of irises. 2 yards by 1 yard is now bare. So, I’ve begun replanting with the baskets. Fingers crossed. I think they are keeping the voles out (as is the snake that moved into that garden) but the squirrels have become curious. I won’t know until spring if plants survived vole damage, and if squirrels transplanted the items in the baskets. The baskets seem well constructed and they are easy to use. Directions are included if required.
