Ubiquiti - UniFi 6,Wireless Long-Range Access Point | US Model | PoE Adapter not Included (U6-LR-US),tri_band

My home had been using a previous Ubiquiti WAP with 802.11ac and 'LR' (Long Range) and it provided whole home coverage from the middle of our row home. But, over the past several years we'd setup a considerable number of WiFi Devices like our AirCond, the Wife's Honda, the new Fridge, new Laptops, iPad, phones, Roku streamers and a myriad of other gizmos. The 802.11ac unit was close to maxing out and I looked into Ubiquiti's 802.11ax unit (this model). Once I finished the setup and config, testing the unit found I was able to max out my Verizon FIOS 300/300 link even from a different floor level. WOW! The setup for Ubiquiti devices is, quite honestly, not for the faint of heart and is odd in that it REQUIRES either a hardware based management controller (separate purchase, look on eBay for cheap!) or a software based controller (free from Ubiquiti, but don't lose the installation!), a logon to Ubiquiti's mothership website and Two-Factor-Authentication, just to start and setup the Wireless Access Point. It will ALSO require a POE (Power Over Ethernet) 48v injector (separate purchase about $16). (NOTE: It will NOT power on with the earlier 24v POE units, it requires the 48v version) That said, once you've got the unit setup, it runs for YEARS w/o so much as a hiccup. The throughput is FANTASTIC and the range is nothing less than VERY impressive. Ubiquiti is known for essentially pushing Enterprise grade hardware and setups onto consumer homes, AND it shows with the pains needed for initial setup and configuration. But if you're moderately savvy with I.T. setups, this is a damn good unit.

If you're a tech dud, like me, you may struggle. Fortunately, I know many tech people who do this stuff for me. We have been struggling with our Wifi for a while, and this was recommended to me wholeheartedly to me by a trusted friend saying it would benefit. And it absolutely has! No more dropping, and the signal is strong now throughout my house! Granted, my internet is currently suffering issues due to it being a new build and the builders janked my internet box, but we have a technician coming out to fix that, so I can only expect the signal to get better! I would not recommend this to people who do not know what they're doing, because even googling this was a little bit vague. 10/10, best Frisbee I've ever had.

Amazing access points. Purchased with a Ubiquity controller, which made it super easy to setup. Multiple VLANs for prod and public wifi networks. If you're a computer junky, this is easy to setup and performs so well! If you're not a technical person, you might struggle to setup.

Easy to install, range is pretty good for my needs. I installed it in a 60x36 Metal Barn by a fiberglass end light so the IP camera about 75 feet could be seen. The dust and water resistance was needed.

When it worked it was great. I tried using this as part of a whole house setup with a Unifi dream router and a Unifi 16 port POE switch. The U6 LR would go thru its adoption cycle and go into service, but after a while it would just go randomly offline It was the only device on the POE side of the switch and It was using only a 30 ft run of a high quality commercial run of cat 6. So I knew it wasn't being deprived of power. Tried a number of things suggested by an IT specialist but it just kept cycling offline. Read a bunch of early reviews that this was an issue for the U6 LR.

Works well. Install was easy. Dont forget to pick up a POE Injector because it definitely does not come with one. I think my biggest gripe is having to use the software to get it going. MongoDB is the bane of my existence at this point in time. It is expensive but it allows me to have WIFI 6 throughout my entire house with only one AP. DO NOT throw away the little L shaped metal piece. If you need to get it off the wall again you will need it. There is a small slit on the right side (Mine is on the wall, your mileage may very).

I really like the seamless WiFi coverage this provides, but really hate the company and its pitiful online support. When I installed this the instructions in the box were basically nonexistent. I tried multiple times and could not get this set up, so I called my son. On his way to my house he called his best friend (who is the CIO for a major company) and between the two of them we finally got my system up and running - BUT it was exactly opposite of what was indicated online!!! 🤬🤬🤬 To add insult to injury, it is not mentioned that you have to purchase a controller to get seamless WiFi. Now, I’m forced to set up two factor verification on my iphone and it just keeps running through dozens of account numbers, though I only have 3 unify devices. PURCHASE THIS ONLY IF YOU ARE AN IT EXPERT, OR NO SOMEONE WHO IS!!!

These have fantastic range and feel much more solidly built than the previous versions of the product. It works well both directly hardwired or in mesh configurations.
