raw, crusty, lightning speed!
Now this album is something else. I was laughing because of the one review I saw saying you must have some insane reason to like the germs. This is actually pretty true, you sort of need a different appreciation of music for this collection. It certainly is raw stuff, they don't spare on sounding like they know exactly what they are doing. a lot of songs though really come together like lexicon devil, media blitz, communist eyes etc. then there are songs like "shut down" which is some 8 minutes of mess. vocals range from pretty crusty to completely raspy to inaudible. Caught in my eye has a chorus saying "I got you caught in my eye" and he sounds kind of like an old man coughing up a hairball or a loogee when singing the word 'eye'. so this probably isn't making the CD too appetizing to you but it really is good stuff. straight up late 70's crusty punk. fast drums, muffled rockin guitars, crusty raspy like fast paced vocals. the germs got it all!

All-in-one Germs
Every song that this seminal LA punk band recorded. Darby Crash crashed and burned brilliantly in the early 1980s. A total anarchist, he played a last gig with the band in order to afford a does of heroin to take him out. Brrrr... Crash is compared to Rimbaud, and his lyrics are highly literate, and the band that backs him up can be heard to improve a lot over the course of the recording; he also sounds a lot like Flipper lead guy Will Shatter, who also died of a heroin overdose. The liner notes are very good, and there are lots of pictures of the band in there. Pat Smear, who is now a superstar with Nirvana and Foo Fighters, got his start in the Germs. The first and last song on the release is "Forming", and you can hear how different the band was at the start and end of their career by listening to this little punk ditty.

Missing most of "What We Do Is Secret" EP
"Lexicon Devil", "Circle One", and "No God" are the original 7" mixes - not the ones on WWDIS. "Round And Round" has been trimmed and remixed. "Caught In My Eye" they left alone."My Tunnel" is here, but it's NOT the live version from the EP.One strange thing about this disc - Darby's vocal on "No God" sounds like a really compressed mp3. Just the vocal. It's the same vocal track that sounded natural on WWDIS, so what happened?Flaws aside, this CD is worth getting just for the GI album.

LA Hardcore
The Germs recordings are usually very rough, like a lot of hardcore is, but they seem to be exceptionally rough, so be ready for that. Also, you may have to listen to them a few times over before really appreciated their sound. This is very raw, stripped to the bones punk. If you like Flipper, I think you'll enjoy the Germs.

I remember being soooo sad when Darby Crash died
Saw this band, at the Fleetwood in Long Beach. I remember being soooo sad when Darby Crash died. Haven't heard the music in years, forgot how great his lyrics were. Fast and hard true punk music. Recommend to all punk fans! In my opinion The California - Sex Pistals, Enjoy!

brutal hardcore
simply the record which establishes harcore in its raw essential root: intelligent, agressive, revolted, rebel with many causes, punch the fist to every direction, strike the system, fight back for you and do everything without explain, this is shouting free and out of order, magnific, 30 razor cuts!

Not a compilation. A masterpiece.
Better than the first and only album, this cd contains all Germs songs ever recorded. Not a compilation. A masterpiece for the punk lovers everywhere.

Disappointing LA Punk Rock
I bought this while reading about the LA punk scene in an excellent book called We Got The Neutron Bomb. My interest in the LA scene was fuelled by liking the Gun Club and X. I wish that I hadn't bothered as it is just punk by numbers, it proves that in most cases you really did have to be there to enjoy the music.

Pensavo meglio....
Qualunque testo che parla di punk rock definisce questo disco imperdibile...sicuramente lo è da un punto di vista storico (per testi e sonorità quasi hardcore) ma è prodotto in maniera davvero ignobile...peccato...

パンクとして
Pat smear

THE GERMS
フロントマンであるダービーが率いるバンドの1st作品。歌も演奏もお世辞にもウマイとは言えないが、これぞPUNK ROCKという音を聴かせてくれます。カッコ良過ぎる伝説のバンド!!!
