A wonderful knife, poor performance by Amazon
To start off, this knife is a gem. For this price tag, it features everything you are looking for. Quality, durability, design, branding. On the other hand, Amazon offering us something no store can offer - effortless returns. However, people buy things, use them and return them in the brand packaging, thereafter Amazon sends it to us. I wouldn't mind buying a used item in a good condition, however, the price for it should be the same. I understand that contacting support will resolve that issue in the form of gift card balance, but I don't want that, I want to pay the full price for a brand new knife, not the one with scratches and residue from washing.

Amazing!!!
I only leave reviews when one is deserved being good or bad. This knife is phenomenal!!!. I am a borderline knife addict and this knife is one of the best knives I have ever owned. I have at least 1 knife from most high end knife makers including Rick hinderer and Chris Reeves. This knife is offcoarse not made of the same higher end steel as those but the fit and finish is impressive and the design of this knife....is the my favorite among all the knives i own. The gimping and finger choil, ergonomics and blade shape is amazing. This is as good or better then knives in the 100 to 200 dollar price range. This is much cheaper then that because of the non exotic blade steal of 8cr13mov. Which in my opinion is plenty good for daily use. The blade stays sharp andIf needed is very easy to sharpen compared to s30v ect. The handle scales are glass reinforced nylon and have a cool and very grippy honeycomb pattern which works very well and goes with the theme of the knife. The knife can be flipped with the flipper or flicked open like a spyderco with the hole in the blade. The bearings are a nice touch fir the price and are smooth as butter. The whole box and presentation is just phenomenal for the price. I hope in the future Western Active comes out with more styles and possibly with better materials. I can't recommend this knife enough. I don't know how they did it. Buy now!!!!!

Decent, sluggish open, some lock stick, tan color different than photos
I got the Straight Tan in Large. First things first, if you click the box above for "Straight-Tan" and then look at the photos (at least as of early January 2020), all but the fifth one show an inaccurate shade of tan. The tan in most of them is a lighter khaki bordering on a sort of antique gold tone, which I think looks nice. What you get is not that. It's darker and browner and duller as shown in the fifth photo, which doesn't look anywhere near as nice to me. So keep that in mind as you choose a color.Next issue, the flip on this out of the box was really slow, gentle, and sluggish. You press the rear flipper tab and you're lucky if you can even get it to open all the way, and the action feels... "soft". I took it apart and noticed they used a kind of thick gunky grease in there as the lubricant. The grease in mine was even a bit dirty. I'm not sure if that's the way they come from the factory or if I got somebody's returned unit, but I wiped all of that off and put a light reel oil on instead. When I put it back together it still wasn't great yet was a good bit better. It still doesn't open and pop with the satisfying alacrity I'd hope for if I just push on the flipper tab, like you get when a knife is designed such that it just jumps open. And you can still misfire sometimes. But if you focus on your flip pressure and angle, you can get it to work, to pop open fully. And if you add a bit of wrist action to that flip, you can get a very satisfying open and pop every time. With other flippers I've got, admittedly smaller ones, I get better flips and pops when using just the flipper tab with my index finger and no wrist action, so that's disappointing. I can easily get used to adding a bit of wrist action in there though so it's not a dealbreaker. This issue may not apply to the medium or small versions of these knives since the blades are smaller and lighter. With less metal to move, the same finger force might make them pop right open for all I know.Mine has enough lock stick between the liner lock bar and the tang that unlocking it repeatedly hurts my thumb. This is not an uncommon problem in knives, and the suggested solutions are to put pencil lead, Sharpie ink, or anti-oxidant compound in there. So far pencil lead and Sharpie haven't made any difference for me so I'll try anti-oxidant and see. Under normal use, it's not like you'll be unlocking the knife lots of times in a row - I'm just in that break-in phase as I tune the knife, so it's not enough of an issue for me to return it, but there's my experience. Also, some of the stiffness, aside from lockstick, might just be the size and design of the lock bar. Maybe it's just bigger and stiffer than I'm used to since this is a big knife. The end result is the same though.A minor annoyance, the pivot is free spinning, so you need not one but two T8 screwdrivers to loosen, tighten, or disassemble the pivot - one for either side. Meanwhile the body screws are T6 if you're wondering. That's not unique among knives but just heads up.The hole in the blade doesn't seem to be as functional to me as the round Spyderco kind that stick up more. So I don't find it to be a good one for thumb flicking. Using your middle finger on the other side to flick it, in concert with a wrist flip, works better than trying the thumb from the near side. And the flipper tab in back works better than both. The blade choil is jimped, which is odd and unnecessary. My concern was that it was going to chew up my finger but you don't really notice it. Maybe after a long and arduous task in which you used it, you would notice your finger flesh beaten up by it - I couldn't say.Note that on the cheaper models, the ones with 8Cr13MoV steel, the clip is not reversible. Right side carry only. The newer and more expensive D2 steel models delete the blade choil and add reversibility for the clip. This knife was more attractive when it first came out, a flipper on bearings in the budget category. It's more expensive now, and meanwhile other companies such as Civivi have entered the price category with D2 steel at the same price this Honey Badger is charging for at least the large versions of the more budget-minded 8Cr13MoV steel models. So that's something to consider as you compare and shop. I really like the way this one looks so that was something that helped motivate my purchase despite the available better values in blade steel.POSITIVES/OVERALL:Overall I like the look of the knife and it feels good in the hand, at least the large version that I got - can't speak for small or medium. The scales have a cool pattern that provides good grip. The jimping on the spine is the fine kind that is actually useful in preventing thumb slip (same kind you see on Chris Reeve, Spyderco, and others), and the blade choil is a handy option for tasks where you'll be stripping something (e.g. bark off a stick) or doing other close work that wants a bit more deft control. The weight is nice for a knife this size.

A must buy at this price
I am blown away by how much I like this knife. I read reviews and decided to buy this, very glad I did. The blade is a great shape, centered and sharp. There is no wiggle in the blade in any position and the lock up is very solid. The scales are comfortable and grippy, very ergonomic in my hand. This is a top choice EDC knife, used for work, play, and carrying. This knife is lightweight and sits well in the pocket. This knife stands up nicely against blades that cost three times as much. I'm not saying it is made better than top brands but the value per dollar is amazing. Another positive is that if you lose this one you don't feel as bad. 100% would buy another and recommend highly.

FANTASTIC for the money.
Let me just say: What a great knife for the price. As an admittedly addicted knife nut, This blade seems to tickle all the fancies I also get from $200 plus blades. The detent is solid, the full flat grind is crazy slicey, the pocket clip carries VERY deep. Clip retention is good, the handle material FRN (or comparable), feels nice! Their Tan is almost a perfect FDE for any interested. I must say, the 8cr13Mov blade steel is terrible... D2 would've been a MUCH better option, adding maybe a few bucks to the overall price. If you can get past needing to sharpen often (you may want to learn how to sharpen anyway!), then this is a GREAT knife for the money.

Great knife great company
The knife geometry feels good in your hand even while holding it in multiple positions. It has ball bearings so it flips open easily you can even reverse flick it open. They have really good customer service, they are very responsive and they went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. The only “con” I can think of (not really a con) but I wish their g10 scales had the honeycomb pattern on them, I like the pattern it’s unique and really sets them apart from other manufacturers.
