Fatal Design Flaw
I just got my Coravin and am ambivalent about its overall performance. Specifically, after accessing a bottle of 2013 Silver Oak (the type of wine that I bought this thing for), the cork has not resealed and wine will dribble out if layed down. This poses problems about how to store the remaining wine. I have a Viking wine frig that keeps all my bottles at 55 degrees F, and so ideally I would want to return an accessed bottle to refrigerator for storage. If the cork does not reseal, however, this is not possible. So I thought the best alternative (at the time last night after a few glasses of wine) would be to stand the bottle up in my normal refrigerator, which operates at 34 degrees. It occurred to me later that night that this method would introduce oxygen into the bottle. This would occur because the drop in temperature the bottle experiences, i.e. between room temperature of 70 degrees and the 34 degrees in the frig, the gases in the bottle would thus shrink due thermal contraction. This contraction would cause the bottle to "breathe" in the necessary air to equalize pressure inside and outside the bottle. As an engineer, I can calculate that the approximate contraction of gas would be (460+34)/(460+70), or 93% of original gas volume. This means that the bottle would breathe in about (100 - 93%) = 7% of the gas volume in the bottle as air. The amount of air doesn't sound like a lot, and I don't know how that translates to long term storage, but it would happen in contradiction to the basic premise of the system. As long as I cannot return the bottle to the recommended horizontal storage position with wine covering the cork, this system has a fatal flaw. The Coravin website states that cork quality and age will affect its ability to reseal, so I guess the corks that Silver Oak uses in its $75 bottle of wine are substandard. Maybe this occurrence is rare, but at this point I am skeptical.

Take the plunge and enjoy
This is the limited edition Coravin Wine Preservation System in which I picked up from the Amazon Truck. Fantastic buy for this unit. I ended up buying 6 other units for Christmas gifts. Entry level to special edition color units. This is a fantastic gift and definitely practical for the wine connoisseur. I for myself purchased additional accessories due to the great price I managed to get mine for. But this purchase with all the accessories is a good buy. It will save u on wasting wine and at first it's fun and impressive to use. But once the nostalgia wears off it really is practical.

Do not buy
This does not work. The cork does not seal completely and I am trying to return it and Amazon says it is not returnable. What a mess! This is a $299 waste of money!

Works as advertised for me, much to my surprise. An opened bottle of wine lasts weeks now, instead of a day or two. I used to throw out a lot of wine because it noticeably (to me) turned after a day or so, no matter what I tried to lengthen its life. I need a new set of replacement capsules every couple of months but that cost is more than offset by the reduction in the number of bottles that I buy.

The perfect corkscrew
Love this!! My wine stayed good for weeks. Since I am a single person, it allows me to have good wine without wasting 1/2 a bottle. Wonderful idea!!
